How To Create A Sin City Effect
Hey guys, this is Eric and I have a lot of questions for Final Cut request tutorial about how to do the pleasant vile effect where you make something colorful and the rest black white or how you change the color of a scene without having to go to motion. Well I’m here to show you how to that, okay. This one in this video I have two pictures here. We’re going to have two demonstrations here I want to show you. Let me clear out all of my filters so these photos will be what they were when I first bring them in.
I have this picture of these poppy flowers; say I want it to change the color of this flower from red to something else. The first thing we’re going to do is, add a color corrector three ways. Go over to your color correction folder under the effects tab and open it up.
Then find the color corrector three-way, tag and drop it on your picture. This will throw up a color corrector three-way tab. Go to your color corrector three-way tab, at the bottom of this they’ll be a limit effect. You can’t hardly see it if you’re not looking for it. It has disguised itself down here but it is there. When you open up this little disclosure triangle it opens up a whole another effect like a chromic key and there’s a lot to this.
This is a powerful tool. We’re going to go through and work all of this. I’m going to show you how it works. This is my eyedropper, this is what I’m going to use to select the sample color that I want to change or affect. This is my mat. It will show me my final output, my source output in the original and it’ll show me my mat. This will invert my mat.
The first thing that I’m going to do is to select the color that I want to change, when I struck this eyedropper and click the red. When I do that, nothing happens. All these adjustments take there places and you’ll see they move and adjust themselves. The top slide bar will adjust itself to the color that you’ve adjusted. In order to adjust all of these, hit your key button. If you hit it once, you’ll go to your mat view. Everything that is white is what’s going to be affected and everything black is not going to be affected.
We need to adjust out limit effects until we fill in the whole flower. I’m going to open up the color a little bit to see if that helps, as you can see when I do that it turns more white than what it was. I’m going to adjust my saturation, open it up and it helped a whole lot. Check out our luma, move it a little bit, and see what we can do. That helped a tremendous amount.
Now, let’s see if these works. You want solid white; whatever you want to change the color of you want it to be solid white. Keep adjusting this. Sometimes yo wont need to adjust it that much or extreme about it. I want to make sure you’ll see because we’re doing this over YouTube and I’m not sure. Now tat we have this flower completely white, you’ll see we have these other white spots outside of our picture and we’re going to take care of that. I want to show you how to do that in a minute.
Now that we have our picture, we want to change completely white. The red color is completely isolated, hit the key button go back and hit it twice then go to your final view or output view. Now that we’ve got that isolated, we can go to our mid black’s and white’s; w can shoot some blue into it. When I do this, it's changing the color. We have a purple and blue flower it's pretty cool. Let’s say you didn’t want to affect this flower and spot up here, how’d we go fixing that? Well, all yo got to do is add a garbage mat. Go over to your fix, go to the mat folder, you’ll have an 8-point and a 4-point. All we need is 4-point, I just need to make a mat around the flower. I’m going to take my 4-point garbage mat and drop it on my picture.
Now I have a 4-point garbage on our picture. I’m going to take this picture or video that I had the garbage mat on, move it up the track, by selecting the clip and holding the option key then pressing the up arrow. I’m going to take another exact picture and lay it underneath. We have the affected one on top and the original on the bottom. Select the top one and load it unto the viewer, go to filter and we’ll see the adjustments for the 4-point garbage mat. Select the 1-point, move it and bring it down, and bring it down we’re going to mask-off just t his flower. Select point4 brush tint it a little bit, I’m not going to be real accurate in here but you all get the point. I will adjust it a little bit. Now, because of our garbage mat we have our flower in the middle isolated.
That’s that guys, so now people have asked me why if I want to keep the color and make everything else black and white, that not a problem either. What we’re going to do is, make this flower black and white then keep everything else. I’m going to hold my shift key and hit the reset button it resets everything. The reset is my color correction but at least my limit effect is intact. I’m going to pull my saturation out, as you see everything inside my flower is desaturated and everything else is the same.
What if I wanted keep the color of the flower and make everything else black and white? What you’re going to do is hit your invert selection. What it does is it brings the color of the flower back but as you’ve notice right here all of these is black and white; but because we have our mask on and masking out this portion of the top clip, the bottom clip which is all in color is shinning through. Everything that’s in color here besides the flower. Everything around is the clip on the bottom and of these black and white is the clip on top.
Go back to the effects and find the color corrector; it doesn’t have to be the three-way this time. It can be the regular color corrector. Drop it on your bottom clip, load the clip into your viewer and pull the saturation all the way up. if you noticed everything in the picture is black and white except what you’ve isolated using the color effects. It's that simple guys.
Here is another example; if I take the color corrector three-way and drop it on this clip, double click it and load in the viewer you’ll see the luma effects and open this up. I’ll take my eyedropper, we can isolate the flower that we have no problem and isolate our background, click our key and go to our mat view then you can see. We need to adjust our limit effect, start making our adjustments and we want to isolate all the background and none of the flowers. There we go a perfect mat.
Now, we can hit our key once to the source again as the affected one. We have this and we can go and change the color of our background to any color we want to. Shift click the reset button and put it back to normal, dragging out the saturation and that desaturates everything. If I hit the invert selection, it inverts it and it keys out my flower. I can rate my flower to any color I want. You’d have to go and mask out the stem but you can make it to any color you want; now it’s green.
Basically, that’s how you use the luma effect guys. That’s exactly how you do it. I hope you have something from this video. I really hope it helps you out in your video editing and stuff.
