Hello! Everyone my name is Gerry Button. And now, I’m going to show you how to make this very simple yet very cute looking sprinkle-style wallpaper within Pixelmator And image application from Mac OS X. Ready? Let’s get started.
Create open up Pixelmator and create a new image. Next, choose the size you want. I’m going to use 1280x800 and at a resolution, we change it from 72 to 300, can click OK. Next, go to full screen mode. This is just easier for me. I don’t know if it’ll be for you guys but if you don’t want to go to full screen, you have larger screen, that’s fine. In your layers pallet, rename the default untitled layer to background. Click OK.
Next, go and grab your gradient tool and choose a gradient for the background. I’m going to choose a light blue to blue radial gradient, drag them to center until you get what you want. This is what I want right here. Really simple, really clean and nice to look at. Now, create a new layer and call it sprinkles as I’m going to. Now, grab your brush tool and make sure whites the foreground color and select this brush here. My settings for this brush are 60 pixels in diameter, 60% in the scatter, and just—if you want a copy that’s fine. The spacing you can increase just a little bit, I’m going to increase it up to about 45. Now I’ll just move it out of the way and just click around in your canvass until you get a nice spread out sprinkles. Okay, leave them the way they are and make a new layer. Call this Sprinkles 02 and change the foreground color by hitting X in your keyboard to black. And then just to make this a bit more spread so by doing that, just go back and change your scatter and make it a bit more spread out. And you can make the diameter a bit bigger maybe up to 75 and then click OK.
Now, spread it around once again until you get something you like and then change the blending mode to overlay. Now, I’ll create one final layer for the sprinkles and call it sprinkles 03, and make this really big sprinkles. So once again, change the foreground color back to white by hitting X on your keyboard. Make the diameter much bigger. I want to use about 95. Change the scatter down to about say 55, and then click OK. So just click anywhere you want. Okay, that should be good and change these blending modes to overlay as well.
Now duplicate this layer by hitting command J and rename it Sprinkles 03. I go to filter blur, Gaussian blur and bring it up to about four. Click OK. Make sure the blur mode is like normal and as well as the original. This will give you a nice little effects. I’m sorry about that last step I thought for some reasons, it looks okay with an overlay but it looks much better with just normal.
Next, go create another layer and call this purple. This is what’s going to make the brightness of our image. Now, I’m going to grab my gradient tool again and you’ll see I have a purple radio gradient, get it and just drag from right around here. And then go to blending mode, color dodge now you can see where the brightness comes from. So after that, create a new layer if you want. You can add this, you can skip this step if you want. And I’d call it text. Get your text tool from the tools and come over here, and just type what you want. I’m going to type in Sprinkle. I’m going to make it 36 in size, helvetica bold is the font I’m using and white in color. Actually now I’m making it about 30. I’m going to grip move tool. I’m going to move it to up here per se or can move it right here, that’s fine. Just—it almost touches the globe but it’s not completely in there. Go to your layers pallet, right click, restorize type layer. What this does is it makes the text uneditable. Meaning, you can’t go back with the type tool and change up your text.
Then take your text tool, command J and duplicate it, call this Motion text just for now. Go to filter, blur, motion, bring this up to about 90, and bring the radius just up to about 25, and click OK. Then get sprinkle, connect slight by holding shift, and command E to merge them together. Rename this once again, text. Use command J to duplicate it. We call this reflect then go to command F to free transform it and then rotate it 180 degrees around. Double click; go to edit, transform, flip horizontal. Hold your shift key and drag it down so let the S and the bottom of S means but not completely. Then change its blending mode to over length and bring it’s percentage down, very low. We’ll say about 20. Grab your eraser tool and choose an eraser brush you think is a good size. Let’s say 100 and then go down here and just erase the top part of this. And you have a small reflection that add to nice bit of detail. And now, we’re going to move on to the final step.
Create one new layer, type clouds, go to filter, generator clouds. Then for the primary color, choose a pinkish color like this here. Then for the secondary color, get a really nice blue color. Well say about this. And don’t be afraid to play with the darkness of it if you want. I’m going to use—that’s good right there. And then click OK. Leave this as for right now. Leave it on normal or rather put it on overlay. Now you can see that the color is dying to come out but not too much on what we want. So go to duplicate, like command J, call this, clouds blur. Go to filter, blur—Gaussian blur and increase this to about 6.
Now this is looking pretty nice. Now grab your eraser tool and erase the part around the text. Now get a large brush tool so I’m just going to—I have a 705 size brush tool that does that. And now for the final part of our step are tutorial rather. Create one more new layer, call it Vivid, go to filter and generator, clouds, click OK, change the blending mode to vivid and then change the opacity to about 30. And there we go. We have a nice cloudy nebula background, easily accomplishing Pixelmator. This is my first Pixelmator tutorial. My next one is about touching up images within the application itself with a few simple steps. Thanks for watching guys.
