How to Create an Image Link in Your Wikispace

In this tutorial I’m going to teach you how to make an image an link on your Wikispace. To do that, we’re going to go up to Edit and I guess first which you would need to do is grab the image if you haven’t uploaded it to your Wikispace. So to do that, you’ll click on this icon and then you would go to Upload Files, Browse and then Upload. I have actually already inserted, uploaded my file and now I want to insert it. so there it is right there, “kids-on-computers.JPG”, JPEG file. So actually I do not want to insert that in there but I’m going to remember this URL right here, this image. Location is kids-on-computers.JPG, okay? I want to remember that. Then, I’m going to go up to the embed widget icon, clickn on that. I’m going to click on Other HTML. Now, to make an image a link, you first have to start with the link HTML. So we’re going to start off with that with the left arrow and then “”: and then put the right arrow. Now, since we’re not doing a text link, we’re doing an image link, we have to put the image in there. To insert the image, we need to do the left arrow, “<“img src=“” whenever you’re putting in an image with html code, you always want to start out with the IMG and then SRC. so Wikispaces, if you’ve uploaded a file whether it’ll be an image, or a document to your Wikispace, the way that you reference that is you first put a /file/view/kids-on-cumputers.jpg, that is what we will put in. let’s say, Image file type, so we’re going to close quotes put a space. And with image links, instead of putting Title, you put “Alt= “kids blogging” and the purpose of all text is basically for people that who maybe blind and can’t see the actual pictures. But through a screen reader, they’ll be able to access your website and the different links. It’ll actually read it a loud to them like a voice announcer. So we’re going to put a space after that close quote and put a “/>” And then we still haven’t closed the link yet. We’ve inserted the beginning part of the link and then the image and then now we have to close the link. We do that by doing this, “” and that’s how you do it. Let’s see if it worked. I’m going to go ahead and click on Save. All right. And that’s our image right there. We can’t see it yet but we’re going to click on Save again. All right. And there is the photo. Now, let’s see if it’s a link. Now, if it’s a link, when I hover over it with my arrow, it should turn in to a little hand. Let’s see. Yup, it sure does. And let’s see of I typed everything in right.
