Marc: Welcome to back to Golf is Hard TV the golf show for the rest of us we’re
clapping to get our tees. It’s the most show in the internet.
Dave: The most passionate, the most informative, the most fun.
Marc: Unbelievable and we are finally— we’re excited, we’re finally ready to
talk about the full swing.
Dave: Yeah.
Marc: And I don’t know where it went, where did it go? Here we go. I know I
posted about this in a day on the blog there thanks to Oob Golf. I won a
contest. I never win. Have you win anything?
Dave: How did you won that?
Marc: I don’t even know I have been using Oob Golf for ages and now I have ad
driver that comes with you know adjustable wrenches.
Dave: That is scary.
Marc: Scary but that’s—
Dave: So is that legal that’s the thing I’ve seen in the ads on TV and you can
adjust the face angle to open, close whatever is that legal. It must be I
don’t know.
Marc: I think you can only adjust it, you can adjust it, a little bit around because
it’s a different club right.
Dave: That’s a good question.
Marc: I don’t know maybe somebody out there knows email us, twitter us but
there it is baby look at that. Look at that thing.
Dave: That’s the Nike.
Marc: My driver.
Dave: Dynamo.
Marc: Straight fit, but the head cover I think is the most impressive part of this. If
I had 2 of them.
Dave: Oh it’s crazy.
Marc: It’s ridiculous. Anyway, great club, I really enjoy using it. I finally had a
couple of straight one today boy this is long. I can hit far with this thing.
Dave: 460 cc head which means 460 cubic centimeters and I thin that’s the face.
Marc: Yeah it’s the biggest, it’s allowed right?
Dave: The face mask which is the max allow—
Marc: That’s it.
Dave: But right now it will change in that, I mean.
Marc: Well sure. So we’ve been talking putting, we’ve been talking chipping but
we have not talked about the full swing driver or other ones so I’m excited
to get some lessons here about the full swing I know today on the course.
You give me a tip of that mike, I’ll start my swing maybe turn the mike to
me and as soon as I do that the ball starts flying gracefully.
Dave: Some great shots yeah we talked about footwork hit term but that’s stuff
like we said is more for the advanced but we’re going to talk about what it
takes to get the average golfer immediately to hit better shots.
Marc: Sounds good to me.
Dave: And it is the opposite of everything you’ve read about— not everything
you’ve read but it’s the opposite of what you read about maintaining this
angle on the down swing.
Marc: Yeah.
Dave: And that has been the biggest killer for most people.
Marc: So is this our first Golf is Hard TV controversial episode we’re going to
get 8 females from coach Harmon and People like that.
Dave: In coming, not really because people probably agree to some extent with
this. Jim Flick would agree with this.
Marc: So it’s not really controversial but it’s not what—
Dave: Some teachers teach the opposite, I would say less experienced teachers
will teach the opposite.
Marc: Alright let me get out of the way and you do your lesson and I will take
the camera.
Dave: Alright I’m going to keep it very simple, it’s basically called cast it from
the top and if you’ve actually heard teachers and I have to say I spent 3
years working with the Jim Flick schools. Mr. Flick if you are out there, I
hope you’re doing well and I hope you don’t mind the reference because I
learn a lot watching you teach and watching the professionals that you hire
teach the game out of Desert Mountain, Scottsdale so this is the problem.
You know a lot of people want to cure the slice; this is the beginning of
learning how to rotate the face so that ball doesn’t slice in anymore.
So we’ve already covered off on why you need to hit down and through
the ball. Hit the little ball before the big ball, very important. So now
we’re going to talk about, now were taking for granted that you watch our
episode, your breath is good and you have good postures so those are
crucial so if you haven’t had a chance to go back and look at those, please
do because the posture and grip are very, very important to make this
work.
So if you’re at that point now and I’m going to start form the top of the
swing and what you want to think about, what you want to feel. So you’ve
taken your set up, nice back swing, you know you want to hit down and
through the ball but how do we make that happen. And you want to think
about this right here, this club head is the farthest thing form the golf ball
at the top of swing. It’s not the grip, it’s not the hands, it’s not the elbows,
it’s not the hips.
The farthest thing from the ball at the top of the swing a little wind
damage there is the club head. So what do we have to get moving first to
the golf ball? Anyone? Well if we had an audience someone would yell
out, the club head.
Marc: The club head!
Dave: Exactly, right. The club head so we take the club to the top or the top of
our back swing and we got to have this club head moving first to the golf
ball which is means you’ve got to feel this. We have to feel the wrist, fin d
the hinging and starting to flow that club head down to the ball so we can
get that down swing going and also what that means is how about if ping,
Marc right down here at the ball.
Here’s a square club face. Is that if we talked here in your shot, is that
okay. You can hit it if you want. So we have a square club face, now
we’re going to pretend that this is impact on down swing. Let me start
thinking about throwing the club edge from the top. We’re going to get
that club face the square up and start to roll over and that’s going to begin
how to eliminate the slice.
And here’s the quick thought on what the club head does throughout the
swing, it’s start square, it opens 90, closes 90. It’s a 180 degree movement
of the club head, that’s it. This is the top of the swing, we need to get that
club square by the time we get it down back to the ball and then we just
want to let it roll over.
Marc, maybe you can take a look at my hands not what they’re doing. This
is how I get the club to rotate 180 degrees and it starts to incorporate a
little bit of arm swing. You can see my hands completely rotate through
and this is what you want to happen through the shot, right here. What is
the average golfing slices, what do the hands do, they do this.
That’s over exaggerated but the face is basically staying open through the
shot, okay so get it to the top and really think about this. There’s a nice
chip right there, I think he’s been watching Golf is Hard TV.com that was
a great shot. Okay, so we’re at the top of the swing and we want to think
about unhinging the wrist right away. Nice like grip pressure to get that
club head moving.
What you may have read or what you’re taking lessons you’ve been talked
a whole lot to that club maintain that 90 degree angle as long as you can to
create power and it has the opposite effect so let’s try it. Let me take it to
the top. You just throw club toward the ball and there you go cast it from
the top.
