Okay Kim, what easy tutorial are you going to show us today?
Kim: Today, I want to show you how to customize the sports cut out. We have right now a baseball sports cut out and a football cut out. Right now, I have my template and you want to always back up the original template in case anything happens I like to have my layers palette up and we’ll be using the character palette. If you need to open this you can come to window click on character history and then it will appear over here.
I also like to select the Move Tool and make sure to auto select layer click. Okay, so we have our layers up and I just want to over all of the layers that come with this set. The first one that comes up is a teen name we have two fonts that come with the set. This is first font and this is the second font.
Each of those fonts has a layer style, so you can play around with these layers styles and you can also change the colors of the font which, we’ll talk about in a minute. But the template also comes with the large silhouette t that you can turn off and on and move around. It also comes with the small silhouette that you can turn off and on. It has the wave lengths that can be turned off.
One of the unique things about this template and what gives it so much flexibility is that we used this clipping mask. And this little bent arrow indicates a clipping mask. If you're clipping mask ever come unclip which does happen sometimes when you drag photos if and you might accidentally drag it into the wrong spot.
If it does come unclipped all you have to do is right click it and then click on create clipping mask and it goes right back. And all of this have to be and then what they’re clipped too is this frame. So, if they were not clipped to the frame, then you would just get to see the backdrop. If you decide you want to use the backdrop as I showing some of the examples where you can just drag a picture in and arrange it and put a stroke on that picture and just use the back drop instead of using the frame.
I’m going to go ahead and it looks like all of this came unclipped because I unclipped this one. So, I’m going to click the bottom one and then pres shift and click my top one and then right click it create clipping mask and now all my clips are back.
We also have of course the frame and then we have a dark edge and this is used if you’re photo is maybe a little bit too short. Then you can turn this on and it will just help cover up you’re photo and also arrow it up if you have highlighted and you have you’re Move tool on, so that if you need to cover more of your crop photo and then of course we have your photo here which we like to highlight this when we photos and so that they go in the very bottom.
Okay, let’s go ahead and get started customizing this template. I’m going to open my first photo, make sure my photo here is highlighted. And I’m just going to drag this in. Now, it’s dragged in small because it’s a low resolution stock photo. Your photo will actually come in probably really big and you may need to come to the magnifying glass and press ALT and then demagnify in order to see that corners of your photo and press shift and drag it smaller or larger.
And I’m going to go ahead and drag mine larger right now and press enter and we’re going to go ahead and do zoom back in. and then I’m going to drag my other photo in and then I’m just going to highlight it and I’m just going to drag it again. Again, move it over to the corner and I’m just going to press shift to keep the aspect ratio and I’m just going to drag it down and press enter and then I’m going to arrow it up.
Now as you can see, this photo is covering the bottom of this other photo. So, what I’m going to do is I’m going to highlight this photo and I’m going to come to my rectangular Mark Tool, right now the circle is on. So, I’m going to come right click it and click rectangular Marking Tool. Square off my picture the part that I want to show and I’m going to click on the mask.
Turn off this dark edge because my photo is big enough to show that and if there are something down here that was like didn’t show this well then I could turn it back on. But, I’m okay with the way this look. Okay, now let’s go ahead and customize some of this.
So, I’m going to go ahead and customize the words here. I’m going to click on my type tool and come down here and change this word to “Chiefs” and I’m going to change it to a different color. And I’m just going to pull up this color selector and choose a color and if you wanted to you can put in just more color you want to click okay.
I could also make this larger by coming over to my character palette, with CS3 you can basically just do it by right arrowing on top of that or you can arrow down and change the number. And you can also adjust colors here. You can even change the font to use a different font. You can also do the exact same thing with the other font. You can change the color, change the word and the same applies to up here you basically do the same thing.
You click inside and you just make the changes. I want to go ahead and if I was using this circular background I would probably go ahead and remove this because I think it makes it too much going on right there. And I would just arrow this down and now let’s go to our backdrops. We have this dark edge stuff and you wanted it to have a dark edge that looks nice with almost every backdrop. That is one the football one only not only the baseball one.
We also have these two tones that also look nice with the dark edge a multi-colored. Now with this, you can change the color. So, you just basically double click on the huge saturation. And you just start moving this around and until you find the color that you like that matches what you’re doing. So, let’s say I wanted it to be a red you can actually change and make it a dark red or a lighter red by the lightness.
And you can also reduce the saturation and if you push it all the way to the left and it changes your backdrop to black and white. So, that’s how those colors work and then you can also do that on this one as you can see, just sliding that around changes the colors. And also another good one to change the color up is this one and make it any clear you want.
I want to show you styles that come with the frame. So, if you have you’re frame highlighted, you arrow down to look at the styles. These are all of the things that you can play around with to change the look of you’re frame. Stroke is the kind of the matte effect that it has if you turn that off and on if you double click it, you can make the size of you’re stroke smaller, larger and you can change the color of your stroke.
So, if you wanted it red or just slide this up and make it blue to there’s a lot you can change with that. I patted a gradient over lay and with that you can just double click it and you can just arrow through all your gradient and find the one that you like or you can create your own by double clicking it and changing these colors.
Okay, and then if I wanted to decide to be blue, now I’m going to cancel that. We also have a layer that I threw in there just for fun and you can also change the color of that by messing with your hue saturation up here. You can play with this double emboss. And also an inter shadow is really nice if it just a plain white and you want to have a nice inner shadow.
Okay so I did want to cover one more thing. I have a dark edge on the bottom of this, but if you’re cut out is in the top, then instead of the dark changing it to dark it changes it to light. So, you can have it double click it and put on a color overlay and have that change it to any color. You can just slide through and change it to any color you want. You can make it look like the sky or you can just leave it white or change it to black.
What’s neat about this templates is that since they do have the clipping mask you can actually bring in any backdrop from anywhere and add it to it, so I’m going to show you how to do it real quick. Let’s say this is one of our backdrops that we sell and I’m going to make sure I have, I’m just going to highlight my hue saturation layer, so I can just get it right into the right spot that I want it. I’m going to right click this, duplicate layer add it to the correct.
Right click, that create clipping mask and I have to turn off my pattern on my frame or it won’t show up and there you go. So, you can use any backdrops that you have and you can also do just a plain color overlay I also have that on in the styles here. Okay, well that pretty much covers the basics of this template. There’s a lot you can do with it, I’m sure if you use you’re imagination you can probably do a lot more with it than I even showing you here. So, have fun with the template.
