How to Customize Your Template Design

So we went over the layers in the first tutorial and now I’m actually going to customize this poster. So the first thing I’m going to do is open my photo and click open and here’s my photo. And what I want to do is highlight the layer that I’m going to add it to which is this one and I’m going to come back to my photo and drag it in above. We’ll go in right above and then I’m going to stretch it out.
Now, you can either turn the photo to match or you can just keep it as it is and just have the photo actually horizontal even though the picture is tilted or the frame is tilted. And I’m just going to come over to this. I’m going to right click it. Make sure you go ahead and press enter so that if you resize the photo, it won’t let you do anything else until you press enter. So I’m going to right click it and click create clipping mask and it immediately goes into place. Now if I wanted to, I could stretch this out so that you could see the skater a little bit easier and then press enter.
Now I’m going to come over and change my color to match. I’m going to double click my hue saturation and I’m just going to push this until I think the color matches. And if I think it’s too much variation then I can always click colorize and then it will be just a basically one hue, light and darks, so either way.
And then I get to increase saturation. Then I’ll need to change the text to match so you can change this to any color you want by double clicking and coming over here to color, if this isn’t up then you come to window, you click character. So you’re going to click this, turn off web only and choose a color and if you want to you can make it darker or you can even make it black.
But I’m just going to choose a color and go ahead and click okay and I’m going to change it. If I wanted to change it to something longer, then I could just reduce by coming here or I could arrow this down and pick a size, so either way, depending on which version of Photoshop you have. Make sure that it’s centered.
I can also come down here and change my medallion. I’m turning on medallion oval and I’m going to turn off medallion background and you can actually stretch this out anyway you want to make them fit and press enter. And then just make sure it’s centered and just adjust with your arrow keys. And then I’m going to come over to my type tool. I’m going to highlight this, click. I’m going to come over here and sample that color again.
Basically if I wanted to, I could turn off the vines or I could turn on the music if I wanted the music on. Then you would just come in and add your other photos the same way you would click on this photo, bring it in and clip it.
Another thing you can do is, I’ve provided font for suggestions but you can actually change it to any font that you want so you can just choose, tab a different font, your choice, any color that you want.
Another thing you can do is come over here to the adjustment layers and you can click on gradient map. Actually you want to make sure your black is on top for this or you could just click reverse but come over the gradient map and then click okay and then right click it, create clipping mask and now your photo’s black and white. You can come in and do more adjustments with the contrast and I’ll show you how to do that real quick.
I’m mainly just looking at the photo because I’m going to clip it. Creating black and white photos is an art in itself so I’m not going to be able to show you how to do that right now but just quick way to change it to black and white. And then the black and white is also clipped to that photo making that photo black and white.
