Welcome to the calorie minute brought to you by diet.com video, I am Sarah Dussault. Now, my favorite food in the entire world out of anything—ice cream cake you know, whatever, are mangoes. I’m obsessed and right now, I am very excited because mangoes are in season. So a lot of people ask me how do I cut a mango. So today, I’m going to be showing all of you how to cut a whole mango.
Now lucky for us. Places like Trader Joe’s have them in frozen cubes, so you can use for smoothies and such. But for some fresh fruit, what you want to do is right here where the pit is. There’s a huge seed that’s kind of like a flat oval disc. So we’re basically going to saw off or cut off the two spheres, the top and the bottom. So I’m just kind of cut down and this mango is bad. But anyway, that will still do it for the video purpose. We just won’t need it but still we’ll cut the exact same way.
So as you can see, I cut pretty close to the top and so for starters, when I lived in Costa Rica for a month, during college, my mom—not my real mom, but my Costa Rican mom, actually cut them in grids like this. I can’t believe this mango is bad. This is so upsetting. It doesn’t matter, it still cuts the same. So you do it like grids kind of like this. And then what you do is you pop it like that and there you go. You can eat them as cubes, you can peel them off. You can peel them off like that or you can literally just eat them off of the skin.
However, I will warn you. There are actually oils in the skin of a mango that are very similar to the oils in poison ivy. I know this from experience because when I first started eating mangoes on a regular basis, I feel like a collagen almost in my lips about a day later. I looked up my symptoms and realized that I’m actually allergic to mango skin. So my favorite food I’m allergic to the skin. So not everybody is but if you have sensitive skin, I warn you. Make sure that you wash your hands after you are touching a mango.
Now since I’m allergic to the skin, that’s not exactly the best way for me to eat a mango. So on the other side, I will show you how I do it. Now I do the spheres but I don’t go in as deep. So you can actually have different sizes. And then usually, if the mango is ripe enough, you should be able to pretty much just kind of rip off the skin. This one is probably over ripe so it’s a little bit harder but if it is fresh and not rotten like this one, you should be able to do just kind of peel it off like this.
Write in a comment below how you eat a mango because really there’s no right or wrong like it’s a kind of a personal preference. So I love all of the viewers online. So please be kind. There you go. I’ve got some chunks right here.
Hopefully you enjoy this video. And if you have any other request on how to eat other fruits, maybe a kiwi, feel free to write that in comments below as well and always subscribe to diet health. See you next time.
