Eric: You want to learn how to cut down a tree?
Kid: Yes.
Eric: Does the framing look good? Today, we are going to cut down a tree and we are going to use a chainsaw to do it. Now, it does not work. Maybe we should do the opening later.
Male: Can you do the opening bud?
Eric: Okay, say to the camera, today, we are going to chop down a tree.
Male: Say it.
Kid: Today we are going to cut down a tree.
Eric: We are using a chainsaw.
Kid: Using a chainsaw.
Eric: But first, some safety precautions.
Kid: But first, some safety precautions.
Male: Go Eric, why are you wearing those chaps?
Kid: Why are you wearing those chaps?
Eric: So I do not cut my leg off by accident or bleed a over Bill’s lawn here.
Kid: You cannot cut his leg off..
Eric: You are right. When you are using a chainsaw, a chainsaw is the most dangerous tool you can own without having to have permit or license to use this thing. These things, they would not cut your leg all the way off but they will cut in deep enough that you can bleed to death. There has been a lot of injuries with chainsaws, people go to the store and they buy one and they do not take the time to learn about it and they do not wear the proper safety equipment.
The most important thing I think you need to own is a pair of chainsaw chaps. So they are not always orange but they are a tough nylon material and then they have a Kevlar fiber in them and what happens is if you are cutting and you accidentally get near your leg, the chain will cut into this and then what looks like a bunch of giant milkweed pod things burst out and jams the saw and keeps you from cutting your legs. So basically these things will cause the chainsaw to stop.
Awhile ago, I was kneeling down like this and I was cutting limb and the saw dropped down and got near my knee and I did not really know how close it was. And all of the sudden a bunch of this white puffy material comes out of the chainsaw chaps and jams the saw and all of the sudden the saw stops and then I am like, what is wrong and I realize that I almost cut into my knee cap here with the chainsaw. So even people like me who think they know what they are doing need to wear stuff like this. It because I wear a chainsaw chaps that I still have a knee here.
Male: It should be noted that Eric is being ably assisted by who is friend Bill, Mr. Putanesca, I am right?
Eric: We were to thank Bill for the camera today once again. We need to have ear protection and eye protection, when you are running a chainsaw. You might not think you need ear protection but the drone of that chainsaw can start to diminish your hearing.
Male: Eye protection, ear protection.
Eric: We are then to cut down a tree, I could barely hear myself. It sounds weird. I am going to take that off. We are going to cut down a dead tree and Bill’s yard that is right smack near the lawn. It is a little bit of a danger of dropping on to his garage. Ordinarily, I am not a real advocate of chopping down dead trees unless they are in the way or unless they are in danger falling in a building or something because dead tree is on the woods are great for birds. Because birds are typically cavity nesters or they are limb nesters and dead trees are great for that, wood peckers will poke a big hole in the tree for their nest.
Then the next here are some other cavity nester that does not poke their own hole will go in there and they have nest in there again. So we know when you building birdhouses, you are building a substitute for a dead tree. So if there are dead trees in your property and they are not in danger of anything just leave them up because they will eventually fall, mushrooms will grow on them and crickets will move into them and also organism will break them down but if it is not bothering anyone, there is not danger of falling or hurting someone or hurting a building then just leave it up. But this one, is dead.
All right, modern day chains saws has some safety features on them that you need to look for. The most important one is a kickback bar here. So basically when you
