David Epstein: Welcome to this week’s tip segment here at GrowingWisdom.com where we will give you some sort of one or two or sometimes four five tips for the week. My tip for the week, this week is to cut things and bring them from the outside inside, enjoy them inside.
Yes, it is great to have beautiful gardens but take some of it in enjoy it inside especially at night when you can see it outside. So, I am standing here amongst a lot of flowers and we are just going to go through real quickly and put together a bouquet, how about that?
So, we are going to take some of the Yarrow and when you are cutting, all that you want to do is go down to the base and figure out about how long you want your flowers to be so then we are going to go over here and take a little bit of the Russian Sage, we are going to add that in. And, I am just putting together this bouquet here, take a little bit of that and get a couple of those and we are going to go over to Hydrangeas and then I am going to grab a nice one of those and make that nice and long.
Let us go over and find some other stuff here, you got some of this wonderful Daisies which are just spectacular and this will last quite a long time inside so we are going to cut some of those. And, if you got multiple plants just remember to take a couple off of a couple of different plants and then finally let us grab some Echinacea as well.
Try to keep everything you are cutting at the same length so when you put it in a vase you will not have to cut things down as much. So, I am thinking I am going to use a big vase, so I am trying to keep everything really long and again it is going to take one snip of this Echinacea and we just got these beautiful colors here and if you find something you do not like, you know, you can take that off.
Now, let us go over and get some leaves as well to add with this, we want to add some green. This is a Ligularia and we have taken a couple of these leaves off of here with are just really big and this will just make this bouquet just a little bit fuller with those leaves in there. Go around to your garden find the plants that you like and find the leaves you like, maybe you want a Hosta with big leaves or maybe a Ligularia or maybe just take some pine branches and move those in there or ferns. Anything you put in will certainly look nice and it will enable you to bring the outside inside.
