Tina Cohen: Hi I am Tina and we are at with Nigel's Beauty Supply in Northern Hollywood. So we finished dying the hair for our Emo hairstyles and now this video we are going to show you how to cut the hair into an Emo hairstyle. Now when cutting the hair the hair should be wet, but you can cut dry depending on the stylist but if you are doing at home it might be a little bit easier for you to control the hair if it's wet.
You want to brush the hair, comb the hair how it fall naturally. If you are trying into your hair at home with a pair of scissors, you want to make sure they are nice and sharp or its actually going to pull the hair follicle and it's going to hurt your hair and its going to hurt your scalp, if you are trying to use scissors that aren't sharp enough.
Couple of different techniques to cutting the hair, you can cut over your fingers, this way, you may want to be - always be careful. You can cut into the hair if you hold the hair straight in this way you can cut into it with the point that's called point cutting so that way you don't get such a blunt line. You can also cut the hair this way if you hold it this way in your hands and cut down.
When you start your haircut, you always want to start for shorter hair you want to start right in the front around the ear. Now with a Emo style it's generally much longer on the top so you get more of like a fake sort of Mohawk effect. So I am going to go through and cut his hair shorter on the sides but leave the length on the top. If you want to make sure it's even all the around you can use your fingers to measure.
So what I am going to do is, I am going to take my fingers and put it in the hair and that's how I know where you cut, my fingers are flushed to Ryan's head and whatever is sticking out of my fingers that's what I am going to cut and that's way to help measure. You don't ever want to cut pass to your second knuckle that's a really good way to cut yourself and to make your hair cut uneven.
So when you are cutting your hair at home, you want to make sure you stay right within this area. When cutting your hair you want to be really careful of your ears. So it's a good idea to hold your ear down while you are cutting around right in this area. I didn't cut to too much I left it a little bit longer you can go shorter if you want. With the Emo hairstyle, you really want to leave it longest at the top and in the front.
So I am just going to go through and trim on the sides here a little bit, but I am going to keep this length right here in the top of the hair. I am going to use the different technique this time; I am going to do a little bit of point cutting. What point cutting does is it makes the line not so harsh. It just sort of let's the hair lay softly and like I said I am doing it an angle.
So basically, however, you are angling your hands is how the hair is going to be cut. So if I want to cut it straight across I would hold my hands straight. If you wanted to be longer here what you want to do is angle your hands. So that's how I am going to cut his hair on the sides. So you keep the length at the top and you keep it a little bit shorter on the sides and what this is also allowing me to do is, its allowing me to blend the sides with the top here and here. So you don't have short and then long of a sudden.
Now you want to make sure whenever you are cutting your hair that you keep checking it in the mirror to make sure its falling how you would like for it to fall. If you see it place the hair looks a little bit thick, you can then go in with what's called thinning shears and there are all different kinds of thinning shears that you can get, because he has such thick hair, I am going to go and thin it a little bit just mainly in this area where it's a little bit bulkier.
So I have finished my haircut and basically from here now what you want to do is use your product. You can use gel; pomade whatever you want to, sort of, style it. I have taken some pomade; there is one my Crew for men that's really great it has got fiber it doesn't have that shine to it that a lot of women like to see in there hair, its more of a matte product for guys.
So you basically put a healthy amount in my hands rough it all together and go through the hair and then you can start placing it. You are going to make sure you have a nice layer of it all through the hair first then you can go in and work the hair in the directions that you wanted to go.
