So now, I've got this brake hooked up, but I really don't like the amount of curve here to this hose, and I think I would like it to be trimmed more, and have this come a little more directly up, and not have as a big of a loop here. Pull that back of the stretchy rubber cover, and so you're going to take an 8 millimeter open in wrench and open this fitting.
So, there is the end, now I'm going to cut this shorter, and then obviously I'm going to need to create another end like this, and that's a fitting that you will need to purchase from your bike stock store that's supplied by Hayes. You need to make sure that you've got the fittings you need, and that you have the fluid you need. To cut it, you don't want to just use a pair of scissors on here or something, you want to get a really, really straight cut.
So you need to hold the hose very securely in order to make this cut, and you can get these at your bike store, they may even come with your brakes, that allow you to clamp the hose device. Now I'm going to clamp this right where I decided I was going to cut it. So I can just cut right along the face of these. So you need a very sharp blade, sharp razor blade, and box cutter knife, and you cut.
This is the way you're likely to be doing it and you want a very clean cut like this. So this is going to work out just fine. Now I have the clean cut that I want, and I'm going to now install this into the brakes. For the El Camino, this is the part that I need, which is a fitting that goes inside of the hose, and then you can see that this is hollow here, and very thin, and this slips over the hose, and then this compression comes down over it and smashes this down on to the hose to really seal it perfectly, and clamp that.
Make sure that's pushed all the way on there. You can clamp the hose in those yellow blocks and device and tap this on. In this case, I could see that it went on to a distance that needed to fully go in. I'm going to push that in there. This compression fitting, you're going to get to a point where you feel that it's up against the compression fitting, but now you want to crush that, so Hayes spec says that you get it to where it's touching, and then you go one full turn. Okay, now it's firmed up. That's on there, and I'm pretty sure I've got a good seal. I can push this on. Now we're ready to bleed the brake.
