Alright folks, this is lesson number 4 for the turn tablist, very quickly what we’ll go on around here is hip-hop turntablism. What I’m trying to explain is that, here in this selection of videos is that, turn tabling is not just for the hip-hop artist, it could be for anyone, doesn’t matter, if you like dance music, there is no reason why you cannot just play, then what you are doing as well. Check out this 1 2 3 first okay. Now very quickly just let you know what the tracks are. The track on my left hand side is this from this EP and number 2 feature and 4 number four by And then EP, 2 featuring DJ Sneak. And then over here we have got this, it is the funk force mix, the ultimate disco groove. What I’m gonna be doing is simply this, I’m gonna let both records ride together and at some point I am going to stop this one, just cut it back and forwards, utilizing the volume control. Now, to check out how I do that, why I’m doing that, go and see lesson 1, 2, and 3 on the arty of scratching for that complete total at the beginner. Check out those and we’ll see where we’re coming from. But, what I’m gonna be doing is I’m throwing the record back in, letting it play together while the volume is up. So really, most of the time, the volume will be up. The records will be riding together, continually, okay? I’m going to. I’ll play with the volume back down, just hold it, just hold it manipulate the beat, you know back forwards, back forwards or maybe bring the volume down, bring the beat back, volume up, beat forward, volume back, beat back etc. like so, okay? Now, a couple of pointers first, if you’re gonna do something like this, I do am gonna need some records logically that will work together, these are sorts of records that will work well together. The instrumental version of certain tracks, okay? Want to work very well together, do this, it’s 2 records, let’s say they haven’t got a lot of vocals because again you see, when you’re gonna be scratching vocals, you have vocals over vocals, if there’s too much, sounds terrible. So ideally, you need to cut the records that are the instrumental versions of let’s say, vocals and or ideally as well, one record that has a lot of vocals in it so, on the other side, and this way just the instrumental version, alright? Now, check out what I’m doing and try this, alright? A couple of pointers here as well, very briefly, and that is that, firstly, you got to make sure that they have beat, that is quite important, okay? Because the last thing you want to do is to have them say, “You’re very slightly off-beat.” And what will happen then is if you let it ride by itself, or they’ll be both riding together, should I say, then eventually they’re gonna glider, which, well, terminology there, that’s not good, boom, boom, boom… then we’ll catch up with each other, but then, I’ll be 1 beat behind, so it will sound not so good. Well, a couple of pointers again, as well again and let us see if you guys, if you’re gonna let it go with the beat, okay as I’m going to do and then see we’re gonna leave it for 8 bars, we’ll always have to make sure that you’ve got your fingers on the pitch control just in case, because there could be a possibility that you have thrown it in just slightly off, so even if you’ve got it beat matched to begin with, it could be slightly off again, after you have thrown the beat back in. You have to always make sure that you are back in. On the other hand, if you’re gonna manipulate the beat and then let so, for example, you are gonna let it ride to that 2, 3 beats and then you’re gonna do it again lay it right 2, 3 beats, do it again, lay it right 2, 3 beats. If it is very slightly off there, it doesn’t matter so much, alright? Let’s give it a go.
