Alright folks, it is Jonathan here. This is video number two in the selection that I am doing on utilizing the actual crossfade on a DJ mixer in the mix.
Now again, a lot of people think well crossfade, you go from one side to the other and then back to the there and back to that and back together. But of course, there is different ways of using a crossfade. And also, when you are using the crossfade, you could also use the base, mid and treble. Treble will take away the hand clap, the high frequency. Mid is vocals, guitar, the melody, most of the instruments and the bass of course is the big bass, the boom, the punchy sound. But of course, by utilizing those different frequencies, during the course of the actual mix, you can (a) make the sound sound a lot better, (b) you can make the tracks sound better together, and most importantly, you can make the tracks work well with each other. Now that is the important factor.
An easy way of explaining that is of course let us say you have got two melodies to take one out and put one in. In other words, mid take, mid in, on the other side which means you do not have melodies clashing and got bass lines clashing, you can always make in essence, you have one song. I have said this before, you got one song here and you got another one. You are mixing one into the other. But by utilizing bass, mid and treble on both sides during the course of the mix, you are actually making a third track in the middle. So, by beat matching it correctly prior to doing any of this and by spending a little bit of time before even beat matching it having a practice, it means that if you practice getting a decent set together, you know what you are going to do. And therefore, when you do that mix, instead of just going one strike from one to the other, mess around with the bass, mid and treble and you can emphasize the mix. So, even if another DJ uses exactly the same records as you and even if that DJ mixes exactly the same times as you, if you can use the bass, mid and treble in different areas in different times, your mix will always be different to those.
Pause the camera I am going to have a quick closer look. Now bear in mind I am not going to be using any headphones, so if the beat does go off slightly, that is not the emphasis here, the whole emphasis of this particular video is to show you how the sound changes by using bass, mid and treble during the course of using the crossfade. Any relevant information with regards to the tracks, look to the side of the video. Bear with me.
First of all, look we will have to listen to each individual’s track. This is the track on the left-hand side (music playing). This is the track on the right-hand side (music playing). Before I do any mixing or before I am done with any mixing, what I have done, I tried to find the optimum place to bring this tracking to that track. So what we are going to do now, I am going to find the optimum place as I have assessed this out prior to so we will just grab it (music playing).
