If you got for example a speaker, a bass speaker there and a mid range like that and all of the sudden you are throwing loads of bass into that speaker. What is happening is that coil is moving away from the magnet. Now then, sound in music, 99% of the time is constant. In other words if you can imagine vocals, melody and bass line continually being played that music is going to be continually played through this speaker here. But what is happening if all of the sudden you got a big bass punch boom, now the coil is going to move away from that magnet. Now what is actually happening for a fraction of a second but this is happening many times over the course of let say that song is being played.
The coil is going to be moving away from that magnet, now what that means is that any sound made just after that coil has left the magnet would not be heard or would not be heard correctly. If you can imagine again you have got bass and you got mid on top and you got a two way speaker like this, there is your bass and there is your top. If you put too much bass into this speaker, this is going boom-boom-boom now you will get bass with out a doubt. But this guy here is also doing a lot of mid here, now then quit often in music the mid is the part that you like to hear because that is where the melody is and the vocals. Now if this speaker is moving to much and it is moving out as soon as you go bam it is out, any mid, any vocals, any melody might not be heard correctly. Now this is why it is a good idea to now actually have your bass turned up to much because what you are doing is you could blow or break this speaker.
What when I say heard it is not good to have it lined all the time because you could over heat your amplifier but more importantly you would not be hearing the mid correctly. If you want to have a good sound through your speaker the only thing to do is to turn the base down a little bit, just a very tiny amount. Now try this, go to your set up and turn everything cap as you normally would and see what is it likes. And now I want you to do, I want you to turn your bass down a tiny bit and then turn it up to the original volume you had it in the first when you tried it in the first time. And just see if there is a difference in sound because you might find that the mid is a lot better and a lot clearer.
The last picture I am going to show you, because I thing that our time is running out, is why people then have a 2 way system or let say bass and then but Bryan Sredd has got it. There is a big bass cap, that could be say 18 inch and then this could be a 12 inch and a 1 inch as a compression driver. In a situation like this it is fine to turn up the bass because what happens is this 18 inch driver will just be boom-boom-boom doing the bass and no mid. This one here will be doing the mid and no bass and this one here will be doing the top and that would not be doing any mid or any bass.
I hope you get the general idea of this particular video. It is basically to show you that by turning up the bass too much on a small set up, say in your bedroom where you just got a small speaker, say an 8 or a 10 inch or say a 6 inch bass driver and a home tweeter is not a good idea because what you basically going to do is you are not going to have a good sound. It is always a good idea to lower it down a little bit. I hope this has been a tiny bit of help, but even if it has not been a help maybe it is starting to make you realize that there is a lot more to this that meet the eye.
