Amy Weisman de Mamani: On behalf of TVlesson.com I am Amy Weisman with Salsa-Art in Miami, Florida.
In this clip I’m going to show you how to dance basic Merengue. Merengue is a very simple rhythm to hear and to dance and it’s fun and it’s energetic. Basically, when you dance Merengue you dance only on the down beats and you dance every beat. There are no pauses.
Sop to begin you place your weight on one foot, I’m going to demonstrate in gentlemen’s timing, and you shift your weight from one foot to the other. So it looks like this. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. We can do this to the front and back as well, so we can do the same steps moving forward. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and to the back. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. We can do it to the side, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and to the other side, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
Anything you do solo in Merengue you can also do with a partner. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
You can also do basic Merengue combinations that look like this. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, take the partner’s hand behind her back. She turns to the right. The leader turns himself and we end with a simple right turn for the follower. That’s a basic Merengue combination that’s easy to do and fun.
