Viridiana Bustos: (Professional Dancer) My name Viridiana Bustos. I’m a
choreographer/dancer/teacher/ and I am the owner and director of the
school. I have around 10 teachers and I try to have all the styles that are
out there and the best of all.
Veronica: Hi I’m Veronica at WatchMojo.com and today we’re learning how to shed
inches and pounds to the art of dance.
Viridiana: Dancing actually is one of the best way s to get in shape. You work your
cardio, you work your coordination, it’s very good for your muscles so
you get to stretch its fun.
Veronica: So you already need to know how to dance to take this class?
Viridiana: People actually say oh you know I don’t dance because I don’t know well
that’s why there is dance schools like this one. There is people that they
don’t have musicality so you hear the music so we’re here to explain
where the musicality, what’s the rhythm, how do you count the music in
dance. Definitely somebody that have never danced before can dance.
Veronica: What are some things that you should remember when you’re in class to
make sure you’re getting the most out of this workout?
Viridiana: Ballet is the base for all the dances and ballet the reason why that this
technique is so strong is because you need to remember the posture of
your body so once you follow this technique which is posture of the body
then you can take anything else so what I always say in any class that I
teach it’s very important to keep your back straight, your stomach in, your
hips in the right place.
So we start for the position is your shoulder so you have to be on top of
your heels, you have to be straight to your stomach in and your pelvis in.
Meaning your stomach has to be inside not like this or not like this.
Always has to be that there is a string pulling you from the top and all
your body’s are straight. When you open your arms, your arms they have
to be straight and your hands as well.
One of the first and main position is plie. Okay so can be your plie in a
second and you go down okay. I’m going to do this position. Your knees
they have to be on top of your feet. Okay. It can be the one that is parallel
and down so this is called a plie and we use it very often in dance. We also
roll our shoulders to the back like this or to the front. Okay, also we use
the torso and we bent a little bit or less with the back straight like always
and we move to the side to the other side forward and back and now we go
to the pelvis okay so the pelvis can move to the left, to the right again
move forward and back, and you can’t move in a simple to the left or in a
circle to the right.
So this usual movement is done in any style of dance you’re going to be
using like I said the first and most important is just to stand up properly to
get a good workout and a good dance class.
Veronica: Do you have any tips for someone who’s self conscious about their lack of
rhythm?
Viridiana: You are not here for anybody. Nobody is here looking at you or it’s not a
competition it’s for yourself. It’s process that you know you get use to it
and then the more that you come and you see that the girl that wasn’t able
to do it is getting to do it. Somebody that is very shy which I have a lot of
them here then just when you know when they’re going to dance and you
see oh actually I can move and I can do this and it just keeps on getting
better.
Veronica: Well thank you very much.
Viridiana: Thank you.
