How you doing, my name is David Cassel, I am the president of LearnMagicTricks.org and today I am going reveal how David Copperfield, master illusionist David Copperfield does that cool illusion where he is holding his hands like this and he is pointing his thumbs up and everybody is stock in the audience like this.
It called thumbs and it is an amazing illusion and I am going to teach you how to do it right here so that you can amaze people at home. All you need to do is tell people to put their arms out like this, okay then you tell them to rotate their hands just like so. Now you tell them to put their hand over the other hand and lock their fingers together so right now their thumbs are pointing towards the ground.
Now you go through a few things with them this is kind of just getting ready for your misdirection, you tell everybody in the audience you know wiggle your pinkies, they wiggle their pinkies. You can tell them wiggle your middle fingers and they wiggle their middle fingers now comes the point when you have to undo your hands and get back into position for later. And with David Copperfield on special, his cameras cut away so you at home never saw him take his hands apart. He had to take his hands apart because nobody can go completely all the way up when you are at this position.
So Copperfield is much as he says he does not have camera tricks. There was a cut and the camera went away for a task let second while he did that. But you as a performer in front of a live audience you do not have that advantage of editing tape you need to do the performance live so basically what you are going to do for misdirection is tell them you know wiggle you middle finger and then you point as someone in the audience and you will say wait a minute you did not just wiggle your middle finger you wiggle your pinkies too.
And when you go to correct that person you point to him and say you know you are supposed to only wiggle your middle fingers and this is the misdirection they are looking at him, you are pointing at him. Now when you come back in the position what you are basically doing is you are coming down instead of like this. Remember this is how we first did it, okay what you will do is to get into the secret position, okay. It is little awkward at first but you can do it, okay so remember this was the standard position, okay.
Now what you basically need to do is get ready to get into this position, okay. So what I will do is I will quickly turn this arm like this, my left arm all the way in like this is far as I can I am hurt a little on the first time but you have to practice. Take your right hand and bring it down just like that, okay. It looks a little awkward but you are not going to stand on this position very long. It helps if you lower your arms like this a little bit, okay and keep your thumb pointed down you want to be looking natural.
So once again the secret position to do David Copperfield’s thumb solution is to first turn this arm as far as you can, okay or excuse me now you know how to that you will go the opposite way. I am getting confuse now so instead of going like this you will go like this, you will be coming like this and it make hurt a little at first you will have to practice and basically you are in this position and then you tell your audience, okay can you this and you bring your thumbs all the way up to the top and of course they are stock because they are still like this they are trying to go like this and they cannot do it.
Give this a try, you will going to have some fun with that once in a while you may have someone that catches on what you are doing but if your misdirection is good and they do not notice you get back into a different position you will amaze them because magic is all about that misdirection and timing.
So give it a try, let me know how it goes and have a lot of fun with that. Once again this is David Cassel with LearnMagicTricks.org, the hottest magic website in the world.
Thank you very much.
