Interviewer: You have a history of making stones. Is there anything you can do to change it or diet or way a light that make this have to happen?
Doctor: Yeah, most of the time with the first stone, we usually do nothing. If somebody forms another stone, if you never had a kidney stone, you have chance that your former stone is almost gone. But if you had a kidney stone in the past, if you have a chance to have forming another stone, it is 50% and usually it is going to double the six years. Does not happen in a minute, it happens within six years.
So, if you are going to form another some person we will work him up initially and they have some other travel on the day we get the kidney which the CAT scan is going to show. Some people will do absolutely nothing because I mean your chances are forming another stone is only 50%. So you get 50% chance and you will form another one.
So certain urologist will work you up with the first thing. Certainly urologist will work you up with the second stone a date after. The workup includes a 24 hour urine collection. You save the urine for 24 hours and you check it for various lactose, calcium, phosphorus, uric acid, oxalate, citrate and you check for sodium because a high sodium diet when you eat a lot of salt will make you form calcium.
Interviewer: So that would be a spot moving and the salting type to get this…
Doctor: If you have calcium oxalate in your house. If you have a uric acid some of these I can help you.
Interviewer: What will help you to uric acid stone?
Doctor: A uric acid stone is usually associated with gout. This people that gave you a history with gout.
Interviewer: Sometime you can make a diagnose of gout from a stone?
Doctor: You can make a diagnose from gout from a stone. You see that other patient has a uric acid stone, a urine is acid. So by changing the PH from acid leveling, it is going from PH of 5 through a PH of 7. You will increase the solubility of that stone, 300%. That means three times the chances of nothing that stone. So those stones when they slowing up, you can give him somebody who can give lemonade, lemonade gives a you a lot citrate. We will increase the citrate in the urine and we will increase the PH of the urine and that will make your stone note.
So if you have gout, unless you have an elevated uric acid in the blood, you do not need to take any medication to lower your uric acid. The only think you have to do is change the PH in your urine and the stones will snuff or the uric acid will not participate and you will not give you a high level of uric acid.
