Hi, I am Joe Graedon. I am a pharmacologist. I write the People’s Pharmacy soon indicate newspaper column and co-host to radio show.
Have you ever waking up in the middle of the night with a terrible leg cramp. You have to get up and hop around, and stretch that leg out, it is just ugly. Well there use to be a drug in the pharmacy that could help. It was called Quinine you could buy it over the counter. Then the food and drug administration move it behind the counter and you can only get it with the doctor’s prescription, and now thy even taking that away. The FBA says it just too dangerous that Quinine can cause some kinds of allergic reactions or blood problems for people who are sensitive.
So that means there is nothing in the pharmacy left unless well you can get tonic water. You heard a genatonic right? Well the tonic has Quinine and some people tell us that a little Quinine can help ease those leg cramps so if you can get it in a pill, you can get it still in tonic water.
But here is really amazing home remedy, it probably one of the strangers we have ever heard off. You put a bar soap under the bottom sheet where legs are and I do not how it works, but it seems to prevent leg cramps for an off a lot of people. Now if the soap trick does not work, you might want to try just a little bit of baking soda like a quarter teaspoon in the glass of water before bedtime or even better yet. Something called Pediolight, it is often given to children who have nausea or who have been vomiting or have diarrhea, and it helps replace electrolytes or Pickle juice. Believe it or not, a lot of folks tell us that Pickle juice can actually help ease your leg cramps all this instantly. And finally if nothing else does the trick a teaspoon of yellow mustered, so whether it is tonic water soap or yellow mustered there is a way to deal with those nasty leg cramps that wake you up in the middle of the night.
