Hey, there. It’s Joshua Feinberg from ITFranchiseSecrets.com and I’m here to talk with you today about the big question that a lot of people want to know is an IT Franchise for you?
Is an IT franchise for you? We’re going to talk about three tips to help you choose the type of IT business you should start. Listen, not every type of business is right for every IT consultant but many chose to buy into an IT franchise.
Now if you’re going to do that, there are several options when you decide to start and there are several options when you decide to start a technology business in general. An IT franchise is just one of those options.
The two main choices that a lot of people look at is whether to buy into an IT franchise or whether to become an independent IT consultant. Which choice is right for you ultimately it depends on whether you want to build your business completely by yourself or whether you want to take a few short cuts, but just because you have to take some short cuts, just because you’re going to take some short cuts it doesn’t mean that everything is done for you.
So if you’re buying into an IT franchise you need to be prepared to up the end in a lot of ways. The following three tips can help you think through clearly when you’re choosing which type of IT business model is right for you.
First, think about your personality traits and not just your technical skills. You certainly need some technical skills and a general love of computers and IT to be successful in an IT services business, but you also need to be able to work well with people and be able to build strong relationships. So think about your abilities and the areas of being assertive and having a head for business, being able to have a strong business intuition. You need to be assertive, but not overly obnoxious if you want to start any type of business. You also need to be able to stick up for yourself without being too aggressive with your prospects, customers, clients and potential partners.
Now when it comes to thinking in terms of having a business head in terms of being able to think about your business as a business. You need to be able to put your business goals ahead of being perceive as nice. Most likely you’ll not always be able to be the nice guy or the nice gal whether you start buying into an IT franchise or whether you start some other type of IT business. If it’s really important for you to always be perceived as the nice guy or the nice gal you should rethink the whole idea because an IT franchise or an IT business may not be for you.
Always think about what is important to succeeding in a long term and put your businesses financial needs over your desire to work with cutting edge technology that’s tough a lot of times for IT pros is to recognize that when you own your own business sometimes you may not be able to always work in the latest and the greatest most cutting edge technologies because it may not be good for your business.
So always think about what’s important for succeeding long term, and put your business as your company’s financial goals over your personal desire to work with cutting edge technology. Remember your clients pay the bills, so you have to work well with them and sometimes even put your need for technical skills, career gratification aside to build relationships for the long term. So first and foremost think about your personality traits not just your technical skills.
Second, you should know that starting an IT franchise is a business of sweat equity, the business of sweat equity. What does this mean? No matter which type of IT business you start, there’s going to be several months during the start of phase of really hard work with little to perhaps maybe modest financial gain. An IT franchise doesn’t come with the guaranteed client lists. Even if an IT franchise is don’t need to be out there pounding the pavement and shaking hands and getting your name out there.
You also need to be diligent about filing up and all of your leads and your sales calls and your pending proposals. These will all be happening before any client pays your dime just because you’re buying into an IT franchise that has some set rules and some best practices it doesn’t mean that your funds will go way overnight. You should be realistic about the pros and cons of IT franchisees and what it works best for you before you decide which type of IT business to start. So second, know that starting an IT franchise is still a business of sweat equity.
Third, remember that no two IT business owners are the same. No IT, no two IT business owners, no two individuals are exactly the same. Just because buying an IT franchise is the right decision for some other person doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right decision for you. You need to think carefully about your personal goals and your business goals and the dreams and aspirations you have for your IT business along with your technical skills and your business skills and your available time and your financial capital. Then you can decide how you’ll start your IT business whether it’s with an IT franchise buying into an IT franchise or working as more of an independent IT consulting firm.
