A simple way to decoration using slip…
Hey, YouTubers. What is up? I have been drawing the studio today. Just about ready to call it a day, but before I have left I wanted to show this slip decoration technique. This is just my water, throw water. I used—today, I was using a B3 brown clay mix. There is a piece I threw earlier today, but I will have a video on and I want to show you this kind of cool technique.
Here is a piece just B square that I had fired last week or so and all I am going to do with B square is I am just going to dip it in the B3 brown clay throw water and kind of left that—have a second tubes or dip it a couple of time, just kind of roll it around, bring it out and give it a minute to soak in. And then what I am going to do is take a cloth and just wipe that off and this makes, I think, a really neat kind of slip decoration. I got a bit of actual clay there. And what is really neat is that the cloth kind of almost gives it a burnishing technique too. It really shows up the trim marks and the things like that, but sometimes blades will cover up and sometimes we want that, but sometimes they are kind of pretty. So, the insight of this, I did not really wipe off too much and now that it is absorbed quite a bit that probably will not get too much design in there, but that is okay because it kind of leaves the brown pretty heavy on the inside.
And so, then what I can do is I can fire this and put just a little clear on the inside and just leave the outside like this. So, that way if somebody wants to use it—you know—for food ore something, they still could. So, I thought that was kind of cool technique and wanted to show. I have a couple others that I did today. Let me show those.
Okay, here are some others that I did today. I think this one is probably my favorite. I do not know if how the camera is picking that up with the glare from the light above, but I thought that came out really pretty. Here is another one and here is another one. Here, that is pretty cool and that cloth really kind of burnish, that clay makes it pretty shiny. And some of them, you know, I might experiment, maybe some I will just put a clear cut on the inside and others I will not, put on the outside and then maybe a couple I will put a clear coat over the whole thing and see what it does.
