Nicola: Welcome to Design2Share Q&A. I am Nicole.
Irwin: And I am Irwin. Today, we are going to ask a question. Can I use my collections in my decorating?
Nicola: Absolutely, it is a lovely way to display things that you have made a collect on your travels and actually gives you a very personal look rather than - a hotel look.
Irwin: Absolutely, I think that collections really express something about oneself and makes it quite personal. I think people get to know one from one’s collections and it is a great way to get gifts and to give gifts.
Nicola: Absolutely, and a good place to start are flea markets and also eBay is really wonderful place.
Irwin: Yes, I love eBay. That is a great resource for that and also to get rid of things. You should not feel so stuck in your collections and so - precious about them unless - one can get rid of an eBay and also one can see the true value of it.
Nicola: Yes.
Irwin: So, that is really kind of level the playing field in terms of collecting, buying and shopping.
Nicola: So, I do not think you should feel so precious about your items. Certainly bring them out if you are entertaining or there are certain things that you may want to use - around the house or on the table in it - rotate them. So, do not be afraid and stick them behind glass.
Irwin: Right, also sometimes I have a great collection of silverware that I used just when I am entertaining, but most of the time it is packed away.
Nicola: Right.
Irwin: And people when they visit, only when I am entertaining, will they see those pieces of silverware.
Nicola: Yes.
Irwin: So, it is a little bit of, it is sort of a hidden collection and why not.
Nicola: Right. I think it is great also if you can laugh things as supposed to just having odd items doctored around, group them together and experiment that way.
Irwin: You do not have to collect just old plates or old reticulated baskets, but certainly you can collect items of whimsy or items that are like an insect, for example.
Nicola: Yes.
Irwin: So, what we have this little honey pot that is actually a bee and then over here there is some creatures, they are flies actually, that are quite wonderful and whimsical of milk and sugar, as well as a little vast which has a saccade on it. They are quite whimsical and so it is for me they are interesting. Who is the person who designed it? I mean, it could be someone from the Victorian times, but who thought of this and who produced it and who allowed it to be fabricated, it was quite interesting to me. They are not the same types of things, but they are similar in the sense that they having this particular association or theme. In summary, we feel very strongly about collections. They are great to emphasize our interior to express oneself and to enhance the color scheme and the style of the space. So, go ahead and collect, happy shopping. I am Irwin.
