PASSING THE HALF-GUARD
Alright, this next pass that we are going to work on is opponent's half- guard. He's got a half-guard and we are going to show this from a couple of different angles so you can do or do with the legs here, but he is playing real aggressively in half-guard. What I want to do is I like to lay down hard on my opponent right here up towards his throat, above the neck, alright. Above the neck away from me so he can't show these hips out very effectively. Reach down and push straight down to the ground just like we can turn at pass guard and push this knee up and over. All the way in, alright.
We are going to show this from couple different angles. I am here. Really simple pass, just like a full guard pass that I am here. I have this cross faced. I reach down. Some people like to switch their hips. However you're going to play for it. You go right here, push that down. Once my knee is up above his leg from here, now I can just shoot it over onto the ground.
So we are here. I switch to my hips. You real careful, you'll get roll over right here. If I take the pressure on his neck as far I explain it, but normally I am applying it like this.
So anyway you've got your opponent, cross-faced, bugging the neck. You push down, this knee comes up and then shoots to the ground to come over into a full mount, alright.
Sometimes if he is figuring for his legs around yours, you'll have to do is in a couple of different ways. One way that I like to do it is stretch mine out and away from him. Now when I reach down I can bump almost straight up, alright. Come straight over into a full mount.
From the other side, same angle. What I am doing is when I am here I cross face away from me, alright. I've got a lot pressure here. I bring this leg up, so there is not much to hold on to. I push with my hands as I straight through right over into the mount.
From this angle, he triangles his legs. figure towards his leg round by. Lot of times it gives people a lot of problems. We're just going to straighten out so there is not much to hold. I am going to pose here. I've got a cross-face going. I posed here, bring it straight up, and through all the way to a mount.
Another side, I am here. Got a good cross-ace. I like to bring one leg up, not much to hold on so even if he trying to hook my leg here, that's okay. He's got a good lock on my leg, that's fine. I still push. I am going to bring my hip up and I shoot my knee straight up toward his face until I clear his legs, and here you've got a good lock down going on him. I am right here. I yank my hip up and through all the way over into a mount, alright.
That's a really simple pass, but really necessary one. A lot of times you've got a guy who has got a good lock down and half-guard and you have a really hard time. The much of the people always forget to do is going to have the leg hooked, just straighten that leg out.
Now there is not much for him to grip on to, alright, that's a good knee through pass.
