Our one of the next bases or sweeps that we are going to work on now is about is side mount. It is going to be moving to the knee on chest position, knee on chest, knee on belly, whatever you want to call it. There is a couple of proper ways to do it then there is a couple of non-ways to do it and one of the ways that I see a lot of people making a mistake is they will try to go too early, they will try to pull their knee up without ever getting a good base and good posture.
And from here their opponent is going to hook ahead and roll them because they don't have any posture, instead from here we are just going to be getting swept and he is going to come up with a side mount and that is no good. That is the biggest mistake that I see people make is they try to prematurely jump up in the knee on chest where he can go to mount, they get caught and they get rolled.
So what we want to do is we have a good mount position, we want to take this move and pinch him with the elbows real deep, that way he can't be moving away from us. If he is shifting away from us and I am trying to get my knee up here, I am going to miss and he is going to pull guard. So I want to get a good base, I want to really pinch him tight with this elbow and do it every time with this one. I like to be bug the neck, like we talked about, it holds here. From here I push my weight up, I look towards the ceiling, I go up here, all in one motion. Now I have my shin across his foot and ribs, my knees goes to the center of his body, I hold it right here. From here I have got a good position, my leg is not up here where he can catch it. It is away from him.
We are going to show this from a couple different angles but from here, I have a good striking position, there is a bunch of good submissions that we are going to go over from here. All and all, it is overall a painful position anyway. So one more time, we are here, instead of just chipping my knee over, I want to bug the neck. I want to use my forearm to keep him close to me and look up all in one motion, here. Now I can go down on the punches and get the submissions. From another angle, we are here I have got a good side mount, pinch him I like to bug the neck, all in one motion and moving up. Now after doing the knee on chest position, I got my knee out, so he can't rise up here, he is going to grab, he is going to sweep us.
