WALKING TO NORTH/SOUTH
Next we're going to work on, how we can go from our opponent's side mount to the north/south position, and you would this for multiple reasons, largely because your opponent is trying to escape. As he is trying to escape, you are going to change positions, so that you can counter his escape attempt. So, we are in a side mount and our opponent is trying whatever to escape. One thing that I want to do, it's important that I've arm control here. I take this arm and I replace this one over on both side of his body. This arm has to go to his hips, close as to me on the ground, here, on the floor.
Now, what I am going to do, is I am going to hit it with my sternum on his chest. That's going to be my pitted point, I am going to walk my legs around, so I am here, I am blocking his hips, I get up on my toes, and I turn. Now, I like to bug my opponent's neck, with my chest. I use my chest, my stomach to turn his head away from me, that limits which direction he can stretch or bend. So, we are here, and I put this arm on the ground to block his hips from shaking me, then I just turn it around and I block his hips.
If I need to, now, I just switch the grip again, I can walk back. If you want to, you can lift, and then take this leg and walk it over to north/south and then again, back to side mount, okay? We are going to work on a couple of different ways to go about doing that a little later, but that's one of your ways to move from the side mount to north/south position.
We are going to show that from another angle, again we're trying to work from our side mount to our north/south position. So we are here, and I need to go to north/south, I take this arm, right on the ground, right next to his hips. That's going to keep him from chasing near this hips and putting me in guard. So we are here, this goes on the ground, I am off on my toes, I turn and use my stomach to turn my opponent's head. Now I've got good control, I am on a good north/south, I continue on to side mount the other side or I can replace my grip over here, and walk over. So I am here, I am on a good side mount, I take his arm, lift it, now I have got a good case. Now I can walk over, got a good north/south, I can continue that walk over to the side mount on the other side.
There are plenty of ways to transition from your side control or side mount and push to north/south and go back and forth so that you can continue vending your position.
