Roses have always played an important role in my garden designs and I particularly enjoy white roses. In fact in my city garden I designed a simple white and green garden around my fountain. You see this space is enclosed and some of the rose varieties within this area that really add an elegant touch or the white American beauty or sometimes called flower called Frau Karl Druschki. Another one called iceberg which is a great old standby.
And even this one with a tree form called gourmet popcorn. This theme was so successful that I decided to give it a whirl in my newest garden, the garden home retreat. This is the center of the garden. Now if you look around you can see elements of white. The idea here is in the center part to carry out a white thing. This has been very successful for me in the past adopting a white theme.
You see if you think about the view from the house looking across the center garden down the alley of crab apples to the river the white does not distract you. If it was red your eye would go to it and it would be a distraction and I want you to look all the way down uninterrupted to the river.
And the space I have three roses that I’m using. I’m using one that’s in early flowering white called Ducher from the 1860’s and it soon followed by beautiful little rose called lindy and then after that we have 00:01:16. 00:01:17 is one I’ve grown for years in my fountain garden in town.
Now these are small plants, now but you just wait in a few years they’re going to fill out nicely.
