Every time you meet somebody for the first time, how do you bring those tension levels down and what do you speak about? Now, most people go in I, I, I, me, me, I am wonderful, our company is great. They don't care who you are or how wonderful you are. All they want to know is what's in it for them. People love to speak about themselves.
So here's a little thing you can use every time you meet somebody new. Past, present and future. Just ask those three questions. Hi Mr. Smith, this is a great organization you have got here. How did you get started? Past, and just keep quiet. Let them talk about themselves.
The next thing is present. So tell me about your company. How many employees have you got, how many factories have you got?
The third one, future. You can pick up more signals than you could ever imagine. So where do you see your organization in three to five years time? Where do you see yourself in three to five years time?
What you have done is asked three questions, they have done all the talking and you are getting to pick up tons and tons of buying signals.
So remember to use that: past, present and future.
