Speaker: Welcome to the iPod Mini take apart guide. The iPod Mini has aluminum case. On the you can find the headphone jack as well as the hold button. And the dock connector is located on the bottom.
On the back of the iPod you can locate the model number in this case it is 81051. To start you'll need to remove the plastic top and the plastic bottom. To do this you need to get some sort of flat tool to prime between the case and the plastic topic bottom to remove it. Do this carefully because you can easily damage the case.
After the bottom plastic piece is removed, you'll see a ribbon cable. Use a flat tool to carefully pry this up. Now for top, once the plastic cover is removed you'll see two Philip screws. Remove these. Now use the flat tool to carefully pry up on the metal cage.
One the metal cage begins to rise you can simply push from the bottom side with the dock connectors and the logic in the screen will begin to slide out. Now you can begin to pull from the top and completely remove the board from the case. As for removing the battery, just simply disconnect the cable that connects the battery to the logic board. Now to remove the hard drive, simply get a flat tool and gently pry up on the ribbon cable that connects the hard drive to the logic board.
To remove the LCD, get a flat tool and flip up the lock mechanism that holds down the ribbon cable. And on the back you'll see the four white tabs that holds the LCD to the logic board carefully pry these of and then you'll remove the LCD.
Now to remove the headphone board. Use the flat tool and gently pry up on the headphone board separating it from the logic board. If you need to remove the headphone board from the metal cage there are four Philip screws. Now to remove the click wheel from the case. Simply add some pressure to the click wheel, while sliding it down. Once the click wheel is removed you'll find four Philip screws on each corner of the click wheel. Remove these screws. Once these screws removed, you can simply take up apart casing that surrounds the click wheel. There you'll find the ribbon cable that you can disconnect from the click wheel.
To remove the click wheel ribbon cable from the metal back casing simply get a flat tool and pry it behind.
