Great video. I too broke the hold cable when I pulled the unit out. But I did successfully replace the battery (soldered a new one in) and kinda put it back together. It's still syncing and playing so I'm claiming victory (even though it's still not holding a charge so the battery probably wasn't what was broken). Bought it as is with broken battery and malfunctioning screen and with VoiceOver this thing rocks!

Oh man, don't do this. Yes the video shows you HOW to do it, but you shouldn't do it anyway. I've opened several older iPods, but Apple is making it very hard. I was trying to replace my screen. I was careful, but tore off the switch that you see dangling in the video. I'm not a complete clutz, I've opened other iPods. Then the battery was glued to the case (not like in the video), so it didn't come out with the logic board, tore off the connector to that too! Even then, everything is glued on, so it would have been terrible to try to get back together.

I seem to have an extra small plastic black part and spring that fell out somewhere during the disassembly. Anyone know what it is or where it goes?
