And welcome to celebrating your life and celebrate your home. I am your host, Melissa Galt. I am an Interior Designer, your Lifestyle Guide, and the Author of 'Celebrate Your Life! The Art of Celebrating Every Day.'
Today, I wanted to share with you some tips on non-traditional artwork that is soft goods for the walls. Like this incredible decorative wall hanging that I picked up in India.
Now this wasn't considered a wall-hanging over there, it's actually a duvet, but I got it and brought it back, and stored for couple of years until it suddenly daunt on me that I need it again on the wall. And really take advantage of it. I also happened to be standing in a room that's small. It has a ten-foot ceiling and a lot of hard surfaces, so sound was bouncing a lot, it was a bit of a problem with the echo.
Now by hanging this gem on the wall, I've solved my echo issue and added a lot of interest, history, and beauty to the room.
As you can see, it's just a simple rod at the top with clip-on rings, no sewing necessary, that I picked up at one the big boxes, linens and things, might have been Tuesday morning. You can do something as simple and easy as that with maybe your quilts that you no longer want to put on the bed, or perhaps you can pick a very small rug, you've got no place to put, up it goes on a wall, tell the story of how you got it.
These pieces add interest, history, and a little soundproofing to our life. Consider non-traditional artwork for your walls, and when you are considering textiles consider pieces like this collar that I picked up in New Zealand, all it takes is a simple nail right up under the hook clasp and it hangs decoratively on the wall.
You can do the same thing with masks and you can pick those up from a variety of cultures. Any piece of clothing including hats can make for a wonderful wall collage. They also absorb sound and sometimes in there is double-hided trees and there is really big great rooms, you've got that wall of glass windows in the hardwoods, you need the extra help. That buffer, I guess those echoes.
So remember, non-traditional art, to mix it up, add history, add texture, and add interest.
Celebrate your life, celebrate your home. Live well and beautifully!
