How to Do Vibrato
In another lesson we talked about bending. You play a note, push it up and back down.
Take a look at that bending lesson. The vibrato is very similar to this, it just happens
faster. So you’re bending up and down to that note that’s a fairly wide Vibrato it’s a
whole step that’s a half step. So it’s the same thing with the bending. You just do it a lot
quicker so the other thing you can do is you bend the note and then you do some vibrato.
[Demonstration]
So that is like is just a really fast bend back and forth oscillating, now you want to make
sure the other strings don’t ring and that’s why I told you on betting to make sure the tips
of your finger are touching those fingers. The tips of your fingers are touching that string
so that it doesn’t start ringing. You’re basically dampening it with your other fingers and
when you do the vibrato you’re often using other fingers on the same string.
[Demonstration]
In my case my thumbs up here give me a lot of strength. I’ll also do the vibrato when I do
a pinch on mine. I have a video on that. Instead of just going— that doesn’t sound pretty
good. So the vibrato is a rotation of the wrist of the hand around the wrist using your
other fingers through some help some strategy and dampening the strings above this of
the one you’re playing so that they don’t ring.
[Demonstration]
In this one case I use my one finger because I don’t have any other fingers below that.
You see how my hand rotates. So you don’t want to have a real vibrato like that really
fast and not very wide and really quickly I don’t really like that so it’s a fairly quick
vibrato, alright so give that a try and let me know how you do.
