Welcome to Bod Beat. I'm Dr. Loretta. Let's talk Detox. Done right, it may help increase your energy and provide relief from a variety of symptoms that maybe dragging you down such as poor sleep, cloudy thinking, moodiness, joint aches and pains and other symptoms associated with chemical sensitivity. We've all heard these crazy Detox stories, like Beyonce's who lived on lemon juice and honey and Cayenne pepper and reportedly lost 20 pounds in 30 days.
Most people do some sort of Detox because they're looking to lose weight. Of course, Beyonce has personal trainers putting her through about 20 hours of exercise a week. We all can't be that fortunate, but everyone has a friend they know who goes on a juice fast every few months or a green drink fasting for a couple of weeks or simply water fast, and they drop six to eight pounds in a month. Here's the problem.
All these people are doing is dropping water weight and possibly losing some weight muscle as well. By starving your body of the essential nutrients, you are not getting rid of toxins or few radicals. You are actually causing your body to go into a Ketotic state that means your body is burning some fat for energy; it causes a little bit Euphoria, increases your energy for a short period of time and whole thing that gives you bad breath.
Ketosis actually releases toxins from the stored fat and makes you liver, lymphatic system and your digestive track work much harder to bend up these toxins and remove them; not assisting these organ systems to process and metabolize newly released toxins from the fat, it can actually cause more harm than good. Plus the minute you stop your fasting and you go back to eating crappie food and carbohydrate, you put the water weight right back on.
