In response to the guest who wrote "isn't that back movement the reason why they tell you to lift with your legs to prevent injury?" Very, very good question. Actually the reason for lifting with your legs when moving things is two fold: One most people are not well conditioned enough in their over all core to pick something up like you see in the good morning exercise. Two as you notice the demonstrator's back is very straight and his weight stays centered with the bar on his shoulders behind his head which helps promote this straight back posture. When most people attempt to pick something up, because they have reach forward in front of them they will round their back too much if they simply bend over to lift it. By squatting down to lift it you can get into a straight back posture to do the lift. Also the purpose of this of this exercise is not to get better at picking something up off of the floor, it is to strengthen the erector spinae for improved performance in a
