Oh Hi, It's Nathan here in the East Village of New York City. I was just looking on the internet to find some information to tell you about, how to donate sperm including, how to find a sperm bank and how the process will be for you. I myself have never done it but by using the world wide web, I think I found some good information to help you out, enjoy these tips. First of all, before I do this video, I just want to remind you guys that any jokes you could possibly make about a sperm bank or sperm donations that have already been made. So I am going to refrain from that and just keep a light hearted attitude and be respectful because this is a very serious subject.
Step one is, you have to find a sperm bank okay. You can ask your physician or general practitioner for recommendation, for couple of different places and you can read up on them, maybe you have somebody who has done this before like a friend, you can ask them. You want to make sure that they are birth certified, because like it or not, sperm much like money you put in a normal bank is very valuable. It's up to you, you are going to go in for an initial consultation, now just because you want to donate sperm doesn't mean that you can, it's like any blueman (ph) group, it looks easy but there is some very specific criteria. Now it changes depending on what sperm bank you are going to, but here is some kind of general ones.
First of all usually you have to be between 18 and 34. A lot of the time you have to be at the certain height like 5' 11" or something like that, because a lot of mother's are going to ask for tall fathers. I know my mother is only 5 feet tall, but I am 6' 2", so if perhaps she did get a sperm donation, she clearly is the type of person that would ask that question. A lot of time your body and -- your body weight has to -- should be in line with your height. You can't be like, really overweight because a lot of the time, a healthy body relates to how healthy your sperm is. Some places require that you have a high school diploma and you can't have hepatitis or HIV and stuff like that for obvious reasons.
So there is some other guidelines that you probably run into, during your initial consultation and there is probably more. So just be prepared, there you might have to try a couple of places or you maybe have to do a little work. So when it comes time to actually donate the sperm, there is a couple of things you should know. First of all, we all know how the donation works. You have to get the sperm out of your body, so you have to go into private booth and with your. Now that you've gone out of the way, you probably going to hand it over a cup to a nurse and she is going to look for four different things. She's going to look at the count, how many sperm are actually in your deposit, motility which is weather or not they are good swimmers and they get around, go where they need to go.
For any information about that there is a wonderful animated sequence in Look Who's Talking, in the beginning, that explains the whole thing really well. They are going to look for freeze ability, are they going to be good at being frozen because that's how they are going to save the sperm for the young lady, who is going to come and receive your deposit, you have some devil. And they are going to look for, look at the morphology, meaning what do your sperm today have, three heads are they crooked. They are always swimming in a circle or something like that, because they want mighty straightforward kind of travely (ph) style sperm. So good luck there is no way you can counter, you go and just plan up making probably up to three donations and hey, there are worst things to do at the back.
Right, next step, you are going to have to pass the medical history test. Now again the sperm bank, is called the bank for the reason and this would be like the credit check that your sperm has to undergo to make sure that the deposit is all going to work out. They are going to look at the sperm's kind of credit history, to make sure that the deposit you are making is worthy of the credit that they are giving you to make sure that you don't have any really bad stuff in your family. Since the mother who is going to be carrying this child, is prepared for whatever comes down the pike.
It's probably going to be a lot of paper work, maybe some waiting and just be ready for some really -- lot's of questions, lot's and lot's of questions. So, good luck for that part and on to the next step. Okay you've done the exam, you've done the medical history and now the final step is signing the contract. Putting your own John Hancock if you will, on that secrete document. Now again this changes from sperm bank to sperm bank, but a couple of things that are pretty consistent is that, you know there is some stuff like, you probably are going to have to go in there and report if you've gotten any diseases for the next like 6 months or something like that.
Before you go in, you are not going to be able to make any other deposits, if you know what I am saying. Prior to go into the actual bank and you probably going to have to sign a thing that says you have legal rights to this child should they become like the next Miley Cyrus or something.
