Male 1: What you wear on a weekend is up to you. But when you walk into an interview or step in to your office, what you wear defines you. Dressing well doesn’t have to break the bank or consume a lot of time. Stylist Kirsten Harper takes us to Barneys New York in San Franciso, to show us how to dress our best whether for an entry level position or as an aspiring executive.
Female 1: In a fast paced world that we lived in, we have about three seconds to make a first impression and we all want to make good first impression.
But Daniel you’re a young man right out the College for you’re looking for a job. So it’s time to grow up and get rid of the jeans and the short sleeves shirt an put something on a little bit more grown up in order to impress company that you’re interviewing with.
An entry level of kind of that faces several times just one as money, the second is that they how lot of competition, it’s a hard work for us out there right now, there’s a lot people trying to get jobs, so they have a lot of competition and the other is that most of time there young so they want their the person that’s interviewing them to take them seriously
And for Daniel you look all grown up might really get on an interview.
How do you feel on this?
Male 2: Fairly comfortable.
Female 1: Well, you look comfortable, and I think that was really great about this as often as that you clearly put thought into it, putting it on at the same time it has a relax feel. The other reason is a great office is that other things is neutral so you can mix and match everything in your closet and finally its not gonna break your bank. This is a jacket that is from a suit, so if you invest in a suit you can take the jacket and mix and match it with different slacks and different shirts.
The reason with this is so great so if you have a basic suit that you can mix and match in your closet so invest in this but then you get great colored shirts and ties which makes it stand out but its not too flamboyant ,your not going crazy with the patterns and the colors. In order to dress without breaking a bank there’s two things I recommend one is to keep things neutral, keep the colors neutral so that you can switch things around from pants and tops. The other thing that I recommend is shopping sales. You might see something that you love that’s not on sale and I guarantee you in two months its going to be on sale. So remember write it down and go back to the store in two months and I promise will be there on sale.
Okay, you’re a pretty young lady right out of college and this is a outfit is perfect for Friday night out with your girlfriends if you wanna go get cocktails, or you wanna get on the movie .And I’m actually really glad you wore this because its exactly what you should not wear at the job interview .And the no’s circumstances should you wear jeans, you don’t wanna wear a low pat dress that shows cleavage or any bra straps and you actually don’t wanna wear open toed shoes .a lot of people A lot of people dredge shopping, shopping doesn’t have to be boring you don’t have to be a shop-a-holic till love it .Look at your body as a canvass figure out what you wanna say and when you go shopping have fun with it.
This is a perfect outfit for an entry level interview because it’s sophisticated young and stylish, the other reason I love this outfit is because it mixes the cool colors with the warm colors the brown is the warm color and the white and the navy are the cool colors. All of the colors you’re wearing are neutrals so you can wear them with anything you can mix and match the pants, the shirt and the top.
So this is going to be an outfit that you would wear into an interview that would be banking, law firm accounting. She doesn’t seem that because she’s looking flamboyant but rather it’s very tailored and structured and very shaped.
From the manager to executive level positions it is important to dress formally because you want to come across as a leader. To Nicole why did you choose this outfit?
Female 2: Well, I feel that s its a little —little bit quirky and it shows my personality but it’s still formal enough for the office.
Female 1: Well, it’s presentable; I don’t know it’s formal after the office. I do like the pants I think their really fun they fit you really well. And their great for the weekend but I don’t like the top.
The spectrum of formality with women is a lot smaller than with men. So a pant suit, skirt suit, you know a blouse and a pants they all kind of represent the same level of formality.
The reason that I really like this outfit is that it’s neutral, but it’s really bold, the sweater and belt make a bold statement. What I think is really important is to go in your closet either annually or bi-annually, and just take out all the things you have at one for a few months. We flash.
What this outfit suggests to me is that you’re conservative and professional but you’re willing to take a risk and you’re confident with yourself. You have different patterns going on there, not right next to each other you broke it up with solid and a you have bit of color, you’re not wearing a bright one suit, you’re wearing a very sophisticated suit with a twinge of color to it which adds to it. It looks fantastic and that looks very professional.
How you look in the outside represents who you are, it doesn’t mean you have to be Angelina Jollie, all that means is, represent your best self to the people around you.
For what Michael’s wearing works and that it matches his shoes matches belt, he’s got a traditional blue shirt on and a traditional pair of khakis. This works for day to day work force but its just blind.
So this outfit great for in the industries such as dot com or the media because it’s casual yet chick style is the gateway to presenting who you are your personality and your goals and this says a lot about you. A lot of people are scared to match stripes with checks but it’s very bold the colors in your shirt are very bold and their play accent to the outfit.
So this is an outfit that’s perfect for managerial level position this quite might gonna be the office styles knowing who you are, what you wanna say and not giving a damn, and what this says is that you’re confident. I did put the black shoes with the navy suit .I would also put if it was a grey suit because black shoes and a black belt is a little bit more formal than a brown belt and brown shoes.
I don’t think fashion is important, in fact I don’t like they were fashion its style. So it doesn’t mean you have to mimic what you see in vogue, what it means is that you have to represent yourself on the outside as bust as you can, that just means to figure out the things you like and that represents you well and put them together as best you can.
