How to Edge a Garden with River Stones

Welcome to Growing Wisdom, I’m Dave Epstein and we’re talking today borders.

Many of you might have a lawn or a patio and then you’ve got your gardens. What do you do with that transition between the garden and let’s say, in this case, the lawn.

I constantly am edging and you can see in some places in my lawn I just have a traditional edge. I’ve edged the grass right down. I’ve created this nice slope so that I don’t let the grass grow into the beds. But here, we’ve done something unique we’ve made and eight inch border using inch and a quarter river stone to inch and a half river stone. We dug down, about four to six inches, we put landscape fabric down and then we put the stones on top of the landscape fabric. This border will hold for a much longer period of time than the traditional border of just cutting away the grass and sharpening it. I really like this. Give it a try, it’s not that difficult.
