Host: How do you empower focus?
Gary Ryan Blair: So, how do you empower focus? Well first thing you do is you identify truly what the definition of empowerment is. Most have it incorrect, most of us think that empowerment is what you do for yourself, what you do for a team or do for a company or family and it's really not the case.
Empowerment is just the opposite. It's what you take away. Example, years ago if you were to go into a K-Mart, Wal-Mart one of those stores and if a mistake was made to the cash register by a young woman or man behind the register, everyone on line would have to wait and suffer until a manager came out of the back room with a some private password and a key chain and they would unlock the computer and then we could finish off the transaction.
Well, the way that you empower that entire process is you get rid of the manager with a key chain and the code you give it to that young person. You remove that manager from the equation. The same thing goes with just about anything in life, is that we have to do is focus on creating it to don't list. What are all the things in your life that you don't need to do?
The key to it is to understanding what are my high pay-off activities, what are my core competencies. Anything else that gets in the way, you need to remove and get rid of, so you empower focus by concentrating on less, on more fruitful activities and eliminating or removing the things that bug you down.
