And, I have also a nightclub on Martha’s Vineyard called Outer Land, who used to be called The Hot Tin Roof, and do not ask me why.
I am Barry Rosenthal and I am going to try to give you a few tips on How to Enjoy the Emptiness. Well, I am a good one to do this because I am a parent. I have a 23 year old and a 21 year old. And, I am pretty happy that they are grown up and moving out, of course, they will never really totally proved out, you know, the boomerang theory. But while they are out, I really enjoy the space.
I enjoy the decluttering the house, I enjoy the alone time and, I think the one of the biggest tips I would give you is; do not be in denial about it. Kids do grow up. They do move on, they have their own lives. And also, do not operate from guilt, you know, my mother would always demand that I call her every two days or whatever. I find that, that is not going to happen kids are a lot more independent and have a lot more to do these days.
So, I think, another way to enjoy the empty nest is; if you do not already have a hobby, get a hobby, get two hobbies, pick-up gardening, whatever. But occupy your time, and let your kids go free, just like little birdies.
