Host: What happens if my newly adopted dog assumes the lead position over my existing dog? Kevin Simpson: If your newly adopted dog assumes a leadership position over your current dog not a lot of things would necessarily changed in the dynamic of your house hold as long as the dogs perceive you and the humans in the households as leaders. And again that’s their perception of it not yours. But generally that it concerns the two dogs living together I always tell people you can nominate who you want to be the lead position. That doesn’t mean you can all act they’re going to work that out themselves and as long as the newly adopted dog which in many households is a younger dog, a younger dogs generally have higher dominance motivations so often they will assumed leadership roles. And as long as they’re being fair in handling that leadership role in a good manner towards the other dog or the other dogs in the household then it really shouldn’t be a problem, somebody is going to assume leadership.
