Hi, this is Dave Collins from Shareware Promotions with the special Butterscotch.com series on Google ad words. This is part eight “Expanding Campaigns”.
Now that your Google ad word account is generating some good data and great results, it’s time to expand it further. We recently analyzed the data from our existing search campaign, and we found out that the large amount of traffic was coming from the UK.
So in the interest of excise and control, taking your ads to suite the audience and lowering your cost. We’re going to create a campaign just for the UK based on the existing search campaign, here’s how we do it.
As we’re already in our all online campaigns for you, we’re going to click on the button here for new campaign. And in the interest of saving time, we’ll choose to load settings from the initial campaign. We’ll give the campaign more descriptive name, and initially while we find our feet, we’re going to set the budge quite low. In this case, we’re going to se the budget to $5.00 a day. Just scroll down again, and click save and continue, and the next thing that we have to do, give our ad group a name and we’ll stick with Google’s default for now, and then we have to enter an actual ad.
So to begin with, we’re going to take an existing ad from the original, initial campaign. And then, we’ll do the same thing with the keywords, then we scroll down the page and we have to enter our default bid. In this case, we’re going to enter 40 cents. Click on save ad group, and the ad group is now active. The next step is to go back into the actual—the new campaign, the UK only campaign. Go to settings, one thing that we need to change here that we couldn’t enter when we initially copied the settings is change the ad delivery. By default, this is going to be to display better performing ads more often, we want to change this to show ads more evenly.
From here, what we need to do is go back into the actual ad group, right now we’ve only got the one single ad that we entered. So we’re going to enter the new ads, add another text ad, and one more for good luck. What we now have to do is to set this campaign to only display the ads in the UK. So we click on the UK only campaign, click on setting, we go into the geographical locations, and we check Western Europe and US and Canada, we open Western Europe, choose UK, scroll down a little and choose save. And if we scroll up the page we can see that the location that the ads being displayed is now set only for the UK.
Google can sometimes take quite a while to approve a brand new campaign. So what I recommend is at this stage, leave both like I’m displaying these ads, both at the initial countries that we selected and the UK. Once we that the new campaign is up to speed, and it is sending traffic to our website from the UK, then and only then should we disable the UK from the initial campaign again.
