Butterscotch Tutorial
What is an "e-mail header?"
Michael Callahan: Hi, this is Mike Callahan, "Doctor File Finder," and welcome to your butterscotch.com tutorial on what is an e-mail header.
You hear the term many people aren't sure what it is or where it is. Now, when you have and e-mail command this is Thunderbird by Mozilla. You see here, its from information, subject, who it's to, but if you go here and click view go down to headers and say all this expands and shows you all kinds of interesting routing information and information received by this IP address through this at such and such time and it was passed there to here.
So this is the detailed e-mail header and actually the path that your e-mail took on its way to you. You can see it goes for quite a ways, domain signature, version. So this is the e-mail header, by default that information is hidden because for most part you don't need to have it. So that's an e-mail header, that's where you can find it, and that's all there is to it.
