Hi, you are watching watchmojo.com, this is Lesley. We’re going to be talking about animals and pets and we’ve decided to start at the beginning with our series. So, the first thing you need to do once you have decided to get a pet is well you have to go get one. So, how do you go about doing that?
The first thing you need to do is figure out a breed that is right and appropriate for you and your lifestyle. For example, if you have a small apartment, you don’t want to be getting yourself a German shepherd or a Great Dane, this is just not fair to the dog; they need a lot more exercise and they are going to end up just being unhappy and barking and as a result, you’re going to be unhappy.
There are also a variety of dogs that are hypoallergenic. There are people who are allergic to dogs and a bevy of different breeds so make sure you do your research.
Once you have decided what kind of dog you want, you need to make a decision as to where you want to get your dog. Palmer here for example is adopted. If you are in the New York area, a great place to go check out is the North Shore Animal League. The North Shore Animal League is shelter but there are no-kill facility which is why I really like to give them a plug. And they have every kind of dogs from puppy, all the way up to adult, already trained dog so that is something that is great. You don’t necessarily always need to adopt a puppy, sometimes it is fantastic to get a dog who is a year old, whose owner maybe had to leave him for a reason but he need a good home and he is already trained and who already responds to commands.
