How to Find the Best Treatment for Your Allergies

Hi I'm Angel Waldron from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. I'm here today to talk about the best treatment options for your allergies.

The treatment process has three steps – avoidance, medication and immunotherapy. In the first step, its best to find out what you're allergic to and reduce your exposure to that allergen so that you don’t have symptoms. Talk to your physician to find out the best medication for you. We have lots of treatment options available now, prescription and over-the-counter.

When medication is not enough we do have immunotherapy, also known as allergy shots. In this process, you'll receive an injection of the allergen gradually overtime until you become less sensitive to it and are able to be exposed without having any symptoms.

Although immunotherapy is very successful in some patients it’s important to remember that it does not work for food, drug or skin allergies.
