Raena Morgan: We’re visiting with Dr. Larry Robinson. He is the Vice President of Scientific Affairs at Embria Health Sciences in Ankeny, Iowa. And Dr. Robinson, you’ve developed a product called EpiCor which strongly affects the immune system. What exactly is EpiCor?
Dr. Larry Robinson: Well, EpiCor is the yeast-based product. But let me say right away, yeast has a negative connotation for some people.
Raena Morgan: It does.
Dr. Larry Robinson: Because I think they confuse pathogenic yeast that can attack the body which is Candida species with the very — and harmless baker’s or brewer cheese which is what EpiCor is made from, but it’s not just baker’s or brewer yeast, it’s a much more complex product in that.
It’s a very proprietary fermentation where this harmless yeast undergoes extreme stress and produces various metabolizing nutrients. And this component we believe that gives the EpiCor the ability to balance the immune system as opposed to simply stimulating it or boosting the immune system because obviously in some cases, you don’t really want to boost or stimulate the immune system in other cases you do.
You want your immune system fine tuned and balanced, so that it can make the correct response depending on what the stimuli is at that time.
