I'm Bob McNally. Today I'm going to you talk little bit about the Popping Cork rig. Most Popping Corks today are commercially made. You can buy them in almost any local Taco Shop. They are used a lot with jigs, soft plastic baits and all kinds of live baits. It's a shallow water rig is best to use in I would say six feet of water or less and are wonderful for fishing lures over the grass bed, oyster bars, around Jetty Rocks, docks and piers that sort of thing.
They attach very simply to a fishing line. This style has a cut along its side with the stopper on the top, you can position it anywhere you'd like to barb the lure or bait. Usually its 2-3 feet above that and it can really turn on a day of fishing to make it a better day from a so-so day. This is how we go about fishing it. Pushing like a cast, let it sit a moment or two. Give it a good solid pop like you would to trigger plug.
It stimulates feeding game fish or surface commotion and adds the feeding trigger to a lot of different types of fish. Give another pop or two. Let it sit, another pop or two and fish it all the way back to the boat, then make another cast to where you think fish might be holding or feeding around dock, piers, pilings.
The important thing is it's a shallow water rig. It's is no good really in water much deep at about eight feet. I think if you try this you can turn one of those so-so day of fishing into something really, really special.
