How to Fit a Dado Rail to the Wall
Fitting the molding, first mark a horizontal line around the room at the desired height. Use a level to get the line perfectly level. Decide on the size and profile you want to use. There are various sizes and patterns available. Starting in a suitable point mark up the length of molding to be cut denoting in which direction the meter needs to be cut. Use a saw in a wood block to cut it. Smooth down any rough edges with sandpaper. Now you can try the molding for size.
Position another piece of molding to cut the external 90-degree angle. Again mark the position of the meter cut denoting the direction. Cut to size as you did before. Now try the two pieces of molding together checking the accuracy of the meter. As with the bath panel, it’s a good idea at least to start the pins or nails into the molding. We’re actually fixing the molding up with a wall border adhesive. Once this is straight the pins can be removed.
Line up the molding with your pencil and knock the pins into the wall. The second piece can be fitted in exactly the same way. Unlike external meters, internal angles are tackled somewhat differently. One of the lengths is cut straight into the corner. Now cut a meter in another length of wood and with a saw cut around the profile of the meter as we’re showing you here. Measure the length where the molding needs to be cut and cut it.
This can now be knocked into place and fix. The internal angle is now complete. Now the reason that the internal angle is cut and fix in this way is that it allows for any movement that is to say shrinkage or expansion in the wood. Work your way around the room until the job is done. Skirting board is fixed in exactly the same way as the molding except it’s a good idea to drill, plug and screw it into the walls.
