Hi! I am Tina and we are doing Emo hairstyles. So we blow drying and cut Jenny's hair and now we are going to move on to show you how to flat iron. A lot of people are really into flat ironing these days, but I want to teach you how to flat iron your hair properly, so you got the really-really strong result that you are looking for, for that straight, straight look.
Okay, so what you are going to do first is you want to section off the hair. So I am going to start on this side and I am going to section out this piece right here. Now when flat ironing you don't want to take a piece that's too big, because then that the heat is only getting to the top and the bottom and then all her hair in the middle is not getting touched by the heat. So it's important to take a smaller section. I like to take sections about that thick, about that thick. You don't want to go too much thicker than that and even that is still pretty thick.
So what you are going to do, and if you need to use hair clips to section the hair off too, that's just fine. I am going to clip Jenny's hair back. There are tons and tons of different flat irons on the market now. I have one by FHI that I love, because that has a really hot setting on it. The hotter the flat ironing, it's going to really distribute the heat well into the hairs, then it stays really well. You don't want to flat iron your hair and 10 minutes later it's curled up again.
So I like one that's really hot, but you want to be careful that it's not too, too hot, because you don't want to damage your hair. So depending on the type of hair that you have, that will sort of determine what kind of heat your hair can take. So what I am going to do is section out her hair. I am going to take my piece. What I am going to do is I am going to insert my comb right at the root of the piece of hair that I have taken.
So right here at the base is what I am going to do and I am going to, as I flat iron through the hair, I am going to move the comb through the hair as well. What that does is it combs through the hair and it helps the heat be distributed evenly into the hair. So I am going to -- you don't want clamp own too hard as you flat iron. Because if you clamp your flat iron down too hard, what happens is you are going to create a line in the hair and you are going to see where that flat iron starts and stops.
So you just want to gently take the hair and glide through with your flat iron. You can see it's nice and straight. You also want to make sure, you protect the hair again with some sort of heat spray. You can do that before you blow dry or if you don't want to blow dry your hair, they do make sprays out there in the market. This one I got at my local grocery store. It's called Flat Iron Spray and basically what it does is, it protects the hair from the heat as you are flat ironing.
So for some other shorter pieces, you can take your comb and insert your comb into the hair and then put your flat iron in there. Like I said, you don't want to use your fingers, because it is a good way to burn your fingertips. So be very careful.
Another really great trick when flat ironing the hair is to take the ends of the hair and to twist then, and then flat iron them. What that helps do is sort of make the ends look a little bit more polished and sharp. So I am just going to continue through the hair flat ironing all these sections.
So Jenny's hair is all flat ironed and what I am going to do is, I am going to go in with the wax and I am going to really like take pieces and sections them out to make it really stylized. Any sort of wax will do. This one has got a really strong hold to it and with an Emo style that's helpful. When you got a wax that really has a lot of hold.
So what I am going to do is, I am going to put the product on both sides of my hands to really make sure it's distributed through the hair really well. There is check to this, when you take the piece that you want, you can actually flat iron with your hands and run it smoothly through the strand. And you can even twist that end a little bit to get it really sharp.
So I am going to do that through the hair. I am going to spike this a little. Alright, so I got it, done styling and Jenny's hair with the flat iron and with some stiff gel. So we are all done. Now we are going to move on and show you some really cool coloring techniques.
