Here I’ll show you how to make a cherry blossom from the bird base. If you already know the bird base, feel free to skip ahead. First we’ll need to make the square base. Fold your square piece of paper in half to make a rectangle, crease and unfold. Now, fold in half to make a rectangle from the other direction, crease and unfold. Fold in half to make a triangle, crease and unfold. Now flip the paper over and fold in half again to make a triangle from the other direction, crease and unfold. Pinch in this sides and squash down to finish the square base. Notice here that you should have a closed point and an open end. From the open end, pivot in and fold in towards the middle, crease and then unfold. Do the same on the other side. Fold the open end up. On the side, invert the guideline that you just made and re-crease it. Do the same on the other side. Fold this pointed flap down and then flip the paper over and repeat the process. And that’s the bird base.
From the bird base, take this flap and open it up like so. Take the tip and fold it to the midpoint, crease and then unfold. Gently open up this flap from the middle. Fold the point that you just creased down and in to the middle then re-close the flap. Flip the paper over and repeat on the other side. When you're finish, fold the flap back down and turn the page so that the long pointed ends are showing. Repeat the same process as before on these two flaps. When you're done, you should have this pentagon shape. From the closed end, pivot in and fold to the middle. Do the same on the other side. Now flip over and repeat. And now we’ll unfold the petals. This part might be a little tricky the first of couple of times you try it. You can flip this upside down and press it flat against the table top to get a nice crease. And there is cherry blossom. That’s not too shabby. But let’s spruce it up a bit.
Here I’ll show you how to add a little -- center to your flower. You’ll need one cherry blossom, a pipe cleaner, and you're handy-dandy multi tool. Start by twisting one end of the pipe cleaner into a circular shape. Then poke the straight end of the pipe cleaner into the center of the blossom and pull it right through. Cutoff the excess pipe cleaner, but leave a bit for a stem. You can wrap that in some green or brown stem tape. You can arrange your blossoms in many ways. Here’s one quick example.
