Here, I’ll show you how to make an origami flower pot which can be modified into a basket. I’m using a 12X12 inch sheet of scrapbook paper. We’ll need to start by making a square base. Fold the paper in half to make a triangle, crease and then unfold. Fold the paper in half to make a rectangle, crease and then unfold. Fold the paper in half to make a rectangle from the other direction, crease and unfold. Now, flip the paper over and fold in half one final time to make a triangle from the other direction, crease and unfold. As you unfold, push these sides in and then squash down to form a square base. Fold the open end of the open end of the square base down to the opposite corner. Now fold the corner to the midpoint of the square, crease and unfold. Now fold the corner to the crease that you’ve just made. Then fold up and up once more. Now flip this over and repeat the process.
After finishing two sides, you’ll need to fold the flap of the square base over and repeat the process again. From this point, you could add a strip of paper as a handle and turn this into a basket. Feel free to skip ahead if you don’t want the handle. You can cut or fold the sheet of paper at least as long as your original square to make this handle. Now we’re going to unfold this flap to this point here. Simply place the handle at the top of the point of the folded corner and then fold back up as if the handle wasn’t there. Flip this over and repeat the process. From here, follow all the directions as normal. From this triangle shape, roll up the last fold to make this diamond shape. Flip this over and do it on the other side as well. Now take this corner and fold it in towards the middle. Do the same with the other corner or flip it over and repeat the process. Now take note of these pockets here and here, we’re going to use those later. Fold this top flap down and pull these tabs out. They should lineup roughly with the diagonal folds already in the sheet. You’ll need to make sure you do this on both sides. Fold this tab hanging over the edge back and crease hard. Then you want to tuck it inside like so. Do the same with the other tab.
Now, we’re going to tuck these tabs underneath or into the pockets that I’ve pointed out earlier. And this is a little tricky especially if you're using thick stock paper like I am. And of course, a second tab is harder than the first. But keep at it use a pair of tweezers or something pokey if you need to. And of course, flip this over and repeat on the other side. Now from this acorn looking shape, fold the pointed end up and crease hard. I like to fold it back the other way and crease again. And we’re almost done. Reach in and pull the sides out. You can squash the bottom flap by placing it gently against the table. And there you go, origami flower pot. And here’s what it looks like with handle on place.
