Here I’ll show you how to make an origami orchid. Really, it’s just a mutated lily. We’re going to star from the frog base. If you already know the frog base, make one and then skip ahead.
To start, we’ll need to make what's called the square base. Fold the paper in half to make a rectangle, crease and then unfold. Fold the paper in half from the other direction to make another rectangle, crease and then unfold. Now fold it in half to make a triangle, crease and then unfold. Now we’ll fold in half to make a triangle again but this time reverse the paper. Crease and then unfold. As you unfold, you might need to pop the paper out of it. Pinch in these two sides here and squash down the other sides. And now you’ve got a square with for flaps, two flaps on top and two flaps on the bottom. This is the square base.
From the square, take one flap on top and pivot from the closed end to fold in towards the middle. Crease and unfold then reverse the fold. Stand the flap up and open it form the bottom. Slide your finger in to pop out the sides and then squash the flap. Now fold that out of the way and repeat the process on the three other flaps. When you're done, you should have this kite like shape with alternating white bottoms and solid bottoms. From the sides with the white bottom, pivot from the white end and fold in towards the middle. Do this on both sides. Now unfold. Lift up the middle. Invert the sides by pushing them in. Now we have this flat edge flapped. Use your thumbs to walk the sides up so that it forms a point. Crease by pinching. Then lay the pointed flap down. You’ll need to repeat this process on the three other sides. And finally, there is your frog base.
From our frog base, take this side with this little floppy thing and then turn the page. From the open end of the base take this edge and fold it in towards the middle. Now let’s rotate and repeat on the other side. You’ve just made the first petal. Now you’ll need to turn to the three other pages and repeat the process. Now that we’ve done that, take the flap from the top and fold it down. As I said earlier, these are going to be our petals. Turn the page and pull the three other flaps down. And now we’ll pull out our petals and let out flower blossom. One last thing, I like to use a pencil and curl the petals. And there is your orchid.
